I think it’s primarily a way to avoid restrain of trade lawsuits while still allowing Brooks back on tour. They couldn’t make it someone who one five majors because that’s too obvious.
This way it’s ostensibly not a targeted amnesty but it is in practicality. And if they get one of the other three guys who are eligible then great, it’s a bonus because they would take all three back.
An added benefit is it gives Bryson extra negotiating leverage in his contract discussions so at the very least he bleeds LIV for another $200m. Also forces LIV to be more and more restrictive in their contracts, further undermining their claims of giving their players so much freedom

I saw a tweet with the financial ramifications Brooks is taking on by going back to the PGA. He's absolutely nuts. Especially considering he's been playing bad golf recently.

Rahm’s contract is allegedly much more punitive and airtight than the ones signed by the initial defectors. At a minimum the word is he would have to give back every dollar he’s been paid.
Brooks allegedly doesn’t have to give up any of the money he’s already received.
Bryson and Cam signed the same contract as Brooks. I don’t think Cam will go because of the Australia stuff. Bryson though…..I don’t think he goes but I think he’ll play it up. He and Phil are the only remotely big time American names left on LIV.

Would be dumb as hell to let him back without penalty.
I thought you just wanted to see the best players on one tour? Hmmmmmm. You better call the tour and tell them how dumb they are. He’s back.

Read what you quoted of me
Go read his terms of reinstatement
If you are still confused, repeat 2nd grade

I mean he’s paying a $5 million dollar donation that he probably gets tax benefits from.
Forgoing the equity doesn’t matter. At least as of right now, there is no mechanism to transfer that for actual cash. Brooks definitely did the right thing by getting the bag while he could from a financial standpoint.

Quite the 180 pride

So less of a penalty and more like “we’re even” deal. Really well done by The Tour here

He also did pay an actual penalty of 5 million Jim plus forfeiture of fed ex money as a penalty
I’m saying the equity part is more of a “we are even” procedure

It’s all a penalty in reality. Just saying how brooks likely sells that particular part of it to himself

So is it “dumb as hell” or “really well done” by the tour?
Posted on 1/12/26 at 9:31 pm to JimTiger72
Are you lost? It’s really well done because they did penalize Kopeka and they did it in a way in which he will accept it. What’s hard about this?

Imagine penalizing tiger woods with a $5M penalty & then calling it a “penalty”… just take the L
PGA Tour is dumb as hell letting Koepka come back & play immediately

Sigh
I know Twitter bots and others like you will try and act like the equity thing is fake money, but it’s absolutely real money assuming you beleive 2 things
1. Brooks Koepka isn’t quitting golf
2. The PGA tour isn’t going to fold
It’s a shot ton of money and I would be willing to bet in 2030, guys like Rory,/scottie/xander will have similar money in PGA equity as brooks had in liv contract dollars

Phil was on a path to be a masters honorary starter, media darling until his death, etc etc and now he is completely black listed by the game
100%. This criteria for returning was a total frick you to Phil. DJ was collateral damage and worth it for the Tour to say frick Phil.
Will be interesting to see what happens. I’ve never seen anyone less happy on a golf course than Rahm on LIV, but he’s likely got the most to lose coming back. I think Bryson returns if he can continue to monetize his businesses outside of the Tour in some manner. Tour probably dgaf about Cam Smith but he meets the criteria. Not sure how much he would care to return anyway.. seems like he doesn’t work on his game as much anymore.

His only penalty is a $5M donation that is a tax write off & he got 9 figures from LIV.
Hardly a penalty which you said was “dumb as hell” earlier. PGA is a joke
