As a scratch golfer I have the same issue from time to time- it happens to all of us. I can’t really pinpoint what you have going on via an internet chat but I can say this- when I struggle I find I lose my spine angle and start coming in on the ball in the stuck position. When I need to fix this issue I go to the range and try to feel like my back shoulder “covers the ball” at impact. I start off exaggerating the feeling and my divot faces left of my line. I think scale back the exaggerated motion until I’m back on plane.

Hope this helps.

Make sure to tilt on the backswing and not make a too level shoulder turn.

Your shoulder turn gets exposed on long irons, you gotta tilt and turn on way back.

Also check alignment as always.

Every club of mine is fine with a small fade, sometimes will draw the driver, but irons are a small fade but 4 and 5 irons are immediate slices.

Getting faster and more flexible is always good advice.

But go ahead and keep asking a bunch of 14 handicaps to diagnose your swing problem through a message board.

i asked for any tips for if anyone has had the same struggles asshat. it’s not everytime i swing a 4 or 5 iron but they’re my most inconsistent club.

sorry for starting a thread on a GOLF BOARD asking about GOLF TIPS.

I’ll ask your mom if it’s okay to post next time i’m in bed with her.

And i’m sure you’re all high and mighty and claim a negative handicap. Prolly supposed to be on tour or something but tore an acl.

Nobody can tell you acuretely retard. Are you coming across the line? Over the top? Hanging the face open? Fill me in how in the frick anyone in this board is supposed to diagnose that.

Im not that good, about a 6 right now. Don't get to play that much right now. But I also don't think this board, filled with most very average golfers, can fix my swing based off of three sentences about it.

Instead of hitting a MILF, hit the range.

You can figure it out in the dirt.

Unless you post a swing video, can’t tell you for sure on anything.

I’ve always been a good iron player and that includes long irons. In high school, I played a driver with 1-lw and a putter. My truck was that most all my irons are played with a short backswing and a lot like a knockdown swing style.

There are so many things that can cause a dive on a couple clubs from the swing put on them to the club themselves. Lots of people are swapping to hybrids all the way into that 5 iron slot because they are more comfortable with them.

Is it odd that I can crush a 4 iron, literally my favorite club, but hate my 5 iron? Then I love my 6 iron. Why does my 5 iron not show me the love?

Have you had the loft and lie checked on it? If you play forged irons, they are soft enough to move over time. A club that winds up a degree or two flat can produce a open face from the toe digging in and the opposite can happen with it bending a little upright.

If you play big box irons, the qc could just be bad and you got a lemon iron. Doesn’t happen often at all but I had a buddy that had a set of ISI irons in high school that had crazy hot spots.

I do play Mizuno forged but it was also true with my last set of cast irons and any other set I've ever had. 4 great, 5 bad, 6 nice.
