I thought that was what everybody complained about for years. That the U.S. Team never had any unity like the European team. And now, all of these guys play a ton of golf together outside of the tour, people are complaining about them being friends.

Go figure.

I would prefer we had the best players.

He's 7-3-2 in the Ryder Cup. His two loses are when he was paired with Tiger.

Patrick Reed didn’t break 80 in one of the matches in France. He was pissed because he wasn’t paired with Spieth and threw a hissy fit. Granted, I thought he should have been paired with Spieth and we put Tiger and JT together, but his reaction to that and then his caddie punching a fan at the following Presidents Cup made it far less likely he gets picked going forward.

They had to pick Bruce cause he was in on points until the .ast event, The rest is just a popularity contest, especially JT. Bryson would have been a better choice than JT., shite so would Lucas Glover

Happy for Burns after the Walker Cub snub in 2017. That squad was loaded though.

Thornberry
McNealy
Ghim
Xiong
Morikawa
Champ
Hagestad

JT,

So lame. I'm not even a fan of Keegan but he 100% deserved to be in over JT. JT has been playing like crap for a long time now. Hell Glover should have been in over him too. What a lame selection. Keegan deserved to be in over Burns for that matter, and I'm a Burns fan.

I get having captains picks and not having all of the spots automatic selections, but this is a pretty clear case that Keegan has legitimately earned his spot over an entire season and has been playing good golf lately.

O well, looking forward to it anyway, but Johnson is kind of a coward for that pick.

It’s almost like Johnson made a couple shitty picks just to handicap the USA squad and keep the matches close.

I am not a big Keegan fan, but he deserved a pick over Thomas and probably Fowler. If those guys are such important cheerleaders for the team, then let them go be cheerleaders with the other 5 vice-captains. It is BS to be picking some of these guys just because they gel well with somebody else. Those are the guys you can’t count on when it comes to singles play.

Happy for Burns, but he was very much borderline as well. At least he has the Match Play Championship to back his argument. Hope he can show a little more enthusiasm on the course than he normally does.

How much does JT play is the question....maybe once in four ball with Speith on day 2...its going to be a close Ryder Cup regardless if JT is on team or not ...I'm hoping that Donald has the balls to pick Ludvig Aberg!

He never had a shot at making the team, but, if you're making a "this guy isn't in the top 12 but he would be a good selection" argument, Bryson would be a better option. Glover too.

I love Johnsons quote about Glover:

“I adore him. I was rooting for him as hard as I’ve ever rooted for anyone, because he’s my buddy. You want to see your good friends play well. Especially given, he’s kind of my generation—you love seeing the more seasoned veteran guys play well, because it’s hard against these young guys,”

Like what were you rooting for? What else could he have done? I guess he had to win the FedEx Cup to get in.

I think the "this guy is playing really well and is 9 in the standings" is a better argument though. Keegan should have been the choice.

Bryson would not have been better than JT. On a tight course like jt will play and in foursomes and such he isn’t a better pick then JT

I think there were better options, but Bryson ain’t one

They are getting the band back together and heading to Rome.

Smylie Kaufman even gets to join the fun as an on-course reporter for the TV coverage.

This team is 100% about relationships and connections. We’ll see how it works out.

I'd argue the opposite. He could've just taken the top 12 guys and hid behind the rankings. He is taking a risk with some of his picks and will have to own up to them one way or the other.

That's just stupid media sensationalism

If Zach Johnson picked his 4hcp fraternity brother... Then it's a valid comment. Every body on that team but burns has won big time events. Why ruin credibility for a silly comment

How did Keegan deserve a pick over Rickie?

I think Keegan would be better in the Ryder Cup, but not sure how he deserved that pick.

Anyone that didn’t qualify automatically using the established point system has no argument that they deserve anything. For years they tried to pick based on form and accomplishments and got rolled by dudes ranked 100+ in the world. Seriously go look at some of the European Ryder cup teams that beat the US in the 90’s and 2000’s. Some of you have likely never heard of them. In 2008 Azinger used analytics and an approach that let guys pick guys they wanted to fill out their squad and it worked. 2010 was close and then they choked in 2012. In 2014 Tom Watson did it his way with hilariously bad team chemistry that led to a post match mutiny. In 2016 they upped their analytics game, got into a birdie fest and smoked the Euros with bomb and gouge golf. In 2018 Pavin ignored analytics completely and put guys on the team based on prior records and Name recognition, ignored team chemistry and we got embarrassed. Then stricker got back on the right track with picking guys who were suited for th course (remember the guys who wanted Kisner over Scheffeler?? LOL) and they won by the largest margin ever.

I think their first 4 captains picks were obvious based on form and course fit, but the last two: JT and Burns will be interesting to watch. Burns was a birdie machine in the presidents cup and Scottie dragged him down, and JT has one of the best US team play records ever, and seemed to be finding it in the last couple weeks of the season.

He absolutely would have. It's not something reasonable minds can differ upon.

You have a very different idea of reasonable. Pair Bryce with Brooks, they might kill each other by the 5th hole.

What’s the Ryder Cup format? Do any of you idiots even know? Why does Europe win when they don’t have half the number of “top” players.

Because they know team chemistry trumps individual merit.

I guess if all you care about is chemistry, which we have no idea if it would even effect it, then sure. Because Bryson is playing great golf and and JT terrible golf. Hell a few weeks ago you basically said JT was a terrible golfer, now he's better than the guy that just dropped a 58 and had a top 20 and top 5 finish in majors this year. Meanwhile JT's favorite thing in the world to do right now is miss cuts.
