Player is "out there" so to speak. Do agree with him that if Tiger never hired a swing coach outside of Butch he'd have 20 majors by now.

yet Scheffler couldn’t win on LIV like he does against the MacIntyre’s and Henry Hall’s

Scheffler is now the fourth man in the modern era to win 12 PGA Tour events or more and at least three majors during a two-season span.

He’s playing at a Tiger Woods level this year, no doubt. Completely separated himself from the rest of golf. But he’s 29 years old and has 4 majors and 17 PGA wins. Tiger had 10 majors and 40 wins at the same age.

He’d have to have multiple more years of this good to even approach Tiger Woods.

This is a ridiculous comment.

How is it ridiculous to say that Scottie isn’t playing the best of the best? It’s not his fault that some of the best players aren’t in the PGA, but it’s just a fact.
I would say it’s clear he is better than Bryson and Rahm, but it would be more challenging for him if they were in the PGA events, which would be great to watch.

How many wins do they take away? They certainly wouldn’t take away any of his top 10s. He would still be there. So he would still have the 13 straight events in the top 10. And 18 events this year all in the top 25. 2 of his 5 wins had those two guys in the field. So you’re saying one of those two guys would take away his wins at the BMW (won by 2), the Byron Nelson where he won by 8 and tied the 72-hole scoring record, and the Memorial where he won by 4.

If we are being honest, only the BMW seems to be where someone else may have had a chance. And that’s still a long shot. Are you sure you want to die on that hill?

I’m saying having all of the best players in the PGA events would make those events more challenging.

Yes I am willing to die on that hill, as it seems like a very safe thing to say that more and better competition is more challenging.

You said he’s not playing the best of the best “like Tiger”.

It’s ridiculous because:
1. The fields today, even without the LIV guys, are stronger than during Tiger’s prime
2. Really just missing Bryson and Rahm. Maybe add Koepka, Hatton, Niemann. Cam Smith has sort of given up. DJ is washed.
3. All these guys still play in the Majors.
4. Scottie’s actual scoring statistics, regardless of who is in the field, are on par with what Tiger was doing.

He beat them twice, tied a record in another win, and won his other 2 events by 4 and 2 strokes. It’s an individual sport. Two more guys finishing behind him wouldn’t change his performance or results. Good for viewing and seeing a couple other guys maybe finish in the top 10? Sure. Change Scottie’s year? No way.

Only a handful of LIV guys would even matter right now. Rahm, Bryson, and Niemann would be about like adding another Rory or Fleetwood (in Rahm's case), a Russell Henley or Ben Griffin (in Bryson's case), or a Fitzpatrick or MacIntyre (in Niemann's case). Maybe throw in Hatton as well, who has been about at the same level as Jordan Spieth or Kurt Kitiyama.

Simply look at the numbers:
Scottie is an otherworldy +3.3 adjusted SG worldwide this year - that is peak Tiger level

Rahm is in the same ballpark as Rory and Fleetwood around +2.1 adjusted SG worldwide

Byrson is right around +1.7 with Henley and Griffin

Niemann is around +1.4 - 1.5 with Ludvig, Bobby Mac, Burns, Fitzpatrick, etc.

Hatton is the only other LIV player even above +1.0

In other words, of the 34 guys who are adjusted SG +1.0 or better worldwide right now, 30 of them play on the PGA Tour.

Bingo. Haters forget that golf is, at its core, a battle between course & golfer. Scottie is putting up Tigeresque numbers on longer, harder courses.

Also, to drive home how stupid the LIV watered down field thing is...Scottie putting up Tigeresque strokes gained numbers on a field full of athletes that bomb it 300+ vs a field of fatass 40 year old dads in the 90s & 2000s

I didn’t get to watch but looking at his shot tracking on the PGA app tells me you’re correct.

I wonder if Ted Scott was with him all week or not.

Anyway, will be fun to see if he can catch the 5 in front of him this weekend.
