re: Sergio Garcia: “I can’t wait to leave this tour.”

quote:They'd all be in line to be captains very soon, possibly all within the next 3-4 matches. Europe has had a very detailed system which the Americans are only now trying to replicate that has been pivotal in allowing them to continue to dominate the US team in these matches, despite what happened at Whistling Straits. If those 3 aren't in the team room anymore, a lot of that goes out the window, and so does the competitiveness of the matches.
Those guys are on the way out anyway. I doubt they would even be worth a captains pick 2 or 3 years from now.

he did find the ball. the pga admitted the official started the clock too soon.

PGA admitted they made a mistake. Of course their crazy rules prevent them from awarding him the strokes back. That would make too much sense. I’m not a Garcia fan, but he had every right to be pissed.

It was worse than that. No only did he start it too soon, he had no idea what Garcia was doing in general which would have triggered a pause. Complete fail by the rules official.
quote:
As Garcia entered the penalty area, a referee located on the 10th hole started a search time clock, as it appeared a search for the golf ball had begun. Unbeknownst to the referee, the players in the group were told by a TV spotter that the ball was on the far side of the creek, and at that point, Garcia spent a considerable amount of time trying to access the other side of the creek. This was not in clear view of the referee due to other players in the group playing, so the time clock was still running on the search, when it should have been paused. When the ball was found by Garcia, the referee's three-minute search time had expired, and Garcia was informed the ball was treated as lost.

I totally agree that he can be a royal prima-donna. He brings a lot of the "hate" onto himself.
I met him years ago after a Bay Hill tournament. Couldn't have been nicer. Introduced himself to me and had casual conversation that he didn't have to.
It was a charity function, so maybe he had his "nice face" on, I don't know, but I appreciate that he took the time to talk to me (a commoner.) :)

I think Sergio is a very good guy. He is liked by everyone on tour by all accounts.
Some guys in golf and tennis just are royal pricks on the course/court. Sergio is one of them

Tiger was a real prick on the course most of his career. But he gets a pass because he won so much and people would simply attribute it to his passion and high standards. But many of these pros have those same kind of personalities. You almost have to to be elite. Scotty is just a different breed. And then you have the guys who obviously want to try and have fun too like Perez and Kis. Everyone is pretty self aware out there on your while playing. Some know they may only have 10 wins in a career and they have to stay loose to keep their sanity. Others know that they have the talent to be great and can be emotional too.
You’re going to see a lot of this when Netflix has their “formula 1” PGA equivalent. Going to be eye opening for a lot of the public.

If players like Sergio, Poulter and Westwood defect, the Ryder Cup will take a big blow.
If the Euros need an aging Sergio, Poulter and westwood to compete for the Ryder cup than they have bigger issues

I wasn't referring to them playing anymore.

These European guy's have historically been world players. They've been everywhere scrounging a buck, because the European PGA lagged far behind the US PGA in terms of purses. I don't blame these European guys for wanting to cash in, especially the older guys.
