Hale Irwin played on 5 Ryder Cups, 5 winners. Hard to believe he was passed over.

Would the US team been required to wear knickers if Payne were the captain? Bryson would have been comfortable with the head wear.

He was number one in the world at one time and won over 60 times worldwide, including two Players’ Championships. He was more than a one hit wonder.

A lot of those wins were skins games and World Cup team events. Not saying he wasn’t good, but only 15 of his 60 wins were pga events and 3 were European tour events

Way more. People seem to forget he battled constant back problems too.

He won some tournaments.

Other guys won multiple majors during the time between Jack’s last major in 1986 and Tigers first in 1997.

Lee Jansen won 2. Faldo 6. Olazabel 2.
Payne 3. Daly 2. Els 3 or 4. Duval won a major and was number 1 in the world- same resume as Fred Couples. Curtis Strange 2. I’m sure there are more that I’m missing.

Fred was talented, but he did not produce but one major during his prime which was in a window without Jack or Tiger.

Norman won 2 majors and had a bunch of world wide wins.

Vietnam vet.

Took up golf at 21.
Made tour at 27.

3 majors.

Played during Watson, Trevino, Player, Nicklaus time.

He should be a captain.

Why is he your favorite?
Probably because he was really good when I first tuned into golf, his swing, attitude, coolness, ball striking, etc.

Usually winning majors draws fans more.

I don't know if that's true.

Fred Couples really has an army of fans
So you see, there's something to it.

To my earlier point-he was multiple year President's cup captain. That's the main reason I was surprised. Had nothing to do with major wins.

Has never been to me or been one when I was watching. Even this prick move was hilarious.

.

I have witnessed his a-hole ways more than once. He has also been caught on camera being a jerk to his scorer.

We were following him and Nick Price around the first time I went to the Masters in 89 or 90 on the Tuesday practice round. My dad and I walk down the hill on 10 and hear a ball hit the trees and go under a bush. We stand there because he never would have found it. Freddie comes strolling up and asked if we'd seen a ball and I told him it was under that bush and he said that if I could get it, I could have it. It was a Maxfli HT before I even knew there was a Maxfli HT. I know CSB
