I belonged to a small Country Club for 20 years, it was awesome.

Never had to make a tee time, the mens group was great, had my own cart and the course was always playable.

When it was sold for the land, my group joined another high end club for 2 years and hated it.

Now we travel around and play different public courses. Doubt we ever join a club again, since several of us live on a public course.

There are many pluses and minuses to both. Plenty of Club and public options in the Houston metro area.

One club a few miles away is 5k to join and another is 250k to join.

Racking my brain of Houston golf clubs there are plenty I can name that would be 5k…maybe 5 that are 250k, of which I’ve played all of. Lochinvar, River Oaks, Brae Burn, CWoods and Shadow Hawk.

Beyond that thought, paying 250k to join a golf club is wacky nonsense.

As I’ve stated before, the costs wouldn’t be that high if member retention wasn’t at an all time high, due to old people clogging up the damn system. Geriatric golf purists think they own the rights to how golf should be played, which was my condemnation in my first response to this topic.

Shadow Hawk is 10 minutes from my home. Played it about 5 times.

Blackhawk is cheaper, about 15k I think. I play there once a month.

Sweetwater is the Club that I belong to for 2 years, 1500.00 to join, hated that place.

Riverbend CC is a great course and reasonable.

You come across as a huge buzz kill. And a bit bigotty against older folks.
He probably got tired of losing money to us on the course.

I particularly enjoy taking money from young guys who hit it 300.

Nah. You pay for the company. Nobody wants to run into someone like you at their club. The dollar amount is irrelevant. People are happy to pay to keep the riff raff out.

Oh so private clubs are full of members that have no prejudices? Interesting.

Of course they do, if you suck at golf, you will be put in the "D" group.

If your scratch or low hcp, you can join the "A" Group, bring your wallet and investment statement.

At Champions GC, you had to do a playing test round and Jackie would say what group you would play in if you were approved.

Sounds miserable. I play golf with guys that played in college and guys that shoot in the hundreds. I enjoy both.

A stuffy country club full of old men who complain about everything sounds fricking miserable.

Instead of the presidents cup this year they should do a pga vs LIV clash.

It would be a bigger blow out than the president's cup has ever been

It’s an expensive place to hang with likeminded folks, keeps out the riff raff.

I never said that. Every club has arse holes. Most just don’t want more arse holes.

Agreed, and this is my experience no matter where I am playing. I want so badly to be good at golf. I just am not. But I really enjoy playing with the scratch guys.

Champions GC is a Golf Club and not a Country Club.

At one time they had more plus handicaps in the nation.

The Course is awesome and if you are lucky enough to be a member, you can rub elbows with quite a few Pro's.

20 years ago, I was playing with a buddy and Steve Ellington joined us on the back. It was a hoot.

It's owned by Jackie Burke PGA Tour legend and wife is is a former amateur champion.

Well another Top 10 player is about to announce he is leaving for LIV. Rahm is up at bat.

That would be extremely hypocritical.
