I have always hit a high hard draw, but now that I am getting older I am hitting a straight ball most of the time.

When I was younger and had unlimited power, I would have killed for a controlled fade.

When I'm on my game I hit a nice fade off the tee. Aim down the left side and the ball just nicely turns over and falls into the middle of the fairway.

I've been tinkering this spring so far and was drawing the ball a few weeks back. That's the worst not knowing if it's going to draw or fade.

Like a poster above said, I quickly went back and just decided to embrace and live with the fade. Take out half the trouble that way at least.

I've kinda figured out a safety cut that goes straight half the time for when my hands get to quick on my normal swing and I start snapping it left. It doesn't go as far as my normal drive when the draw is working, but it isn't crazy shorter and it keeps it in play. I used to play a fade so it's comforting.

I played a fade for most of my life. It had about a five to seven yard shape to it. Here’s the problem; when you have that kind of swing path or a tendency to go over the top, you’ll end up hitting a lot of weak shots and struggle to compress the ball. Not only that, but the consistency you’re looking to generate hitting that way is a myth; distance control is a real issue as well as generating the proper spin on the ball for the situation.

If you’re intentionally using a fade as a generated shot, that one thing. If it’s your stock “not thinking about it” shot, it’s problematic. There’s certainly more than one way to get a round a course, but be careful if you lean on a fade too much.

I’ll be honest here……nothing in my game is controlled anymore. What was once a well connected, powerful and repeatable swing now is a basket case.

My first shot can miss 20 yards left then my second shot go 15 yards right.

Throw in an occasional shank and the putting tips……well, my beer intake increases.

I just tried this on the course and damn that bitch falls straight in the fairway almost everytime but it’s about a club/ club and a half shorter than my normal shot but hell I’ll take it for control.

The key is that when I’m set up open I subconcially feel I can go hard at it and it will not hook on me which is huge. I’ve fought a hook my whole life.

This is exactly what I’m doing, I’m setting up with body lines slightly open with the face square to the target.

The ball starts right and falls back on target but it is weaker which sucks. No clue how those dudes on TV pop off 315 yard power fades.

My stock shot is nowhere close to a fade.

I’m wondering if the more I get comfortable and start going at it harder with practice If the lost distance will be come back.

But just playing and knowing I will not hook it has been fantastic.

Interesting take, considering pretty every elite driver of the ball in the world hits a fade off the tee.

Yeah. Seems to be working out ok for Morikawa, Finau, Rahm, DJ etc.

When people say “my fade doesn’tf go far” that’s because they are hitting a slice

An actual fade/cut should still go just as far as a draw. It’s all about spin rates. It’s just most players when they hit a left to right shape, they out far too much spin on the ball and it costs them distance

By and large they’re young, they strength and flexibility train. They have better equipment.

When I was playing a lot and 30 I could rip them 300 plus.

After I passed 50 and back surgery, killing one is maybe 270, if I get some decent roll.
