I finished the 3rd grade so I write the actual number like you are supposed to and add it up.

You add scores according to 4's. . .it takes about 5 seconds to add 9 holes.

Unless I’m in a tournament I usually just write 1,2,3,4 for bogies
- for par
1 or 2 w a circle around it for birdie/eagles

Looks super clean compared to the +/- in my opinion.

When you guys write 8 in, do you do it with one continuous line or draw two circles on top of each other?

Actual scores.

Use of +1 E +2 etc… should only be used as a running tally not as a score on an individual hole.

If you’re by yourself, go with whatever floats your boat. More than one person on the scorecard and I’d say recording the actual scores is the correct answer.

Here's an example of how I keep score. Today I kept track of my fairways, greens, and putts as well. I didn't score TheChosenOne on those stats, so he just got the normal score recorded.

I write the real score down since that is how it had to be done when I played competitively in HS. Just got used to it. I generally have the under or over par in my head anyway, as long as it's respectable. And I only circle the under pars. No boxes for over pars. Ain't nobody got time for all that.

I’m pretty much same as this. HS coach said writing +\- could lead to incorrect score submittal if someone mistook what the par was for a hole. So I’ve been recording actual strokes ever since.

I write the number of my score in top box.

Then below it I make a slash and put a 1 if I hit fairway and a one if I hit green. I put a zero if I miss fairway or green.

Lastly I put my putts per hole in a box.

Helps me remember how I played and I enter stats on GHIN later.

What you do is put the number they shot and circle if birdie - that’s it. The rest of the box is for the bet $$

I started playing golf when I was 13 re 1960. I wrote the number for the hole on the card and have been doing it ever since.

I’ve always written it by stroke count with circles for birdies and squares for bogeys like you see it tv. Thought most all did it that way to be honest but writing your score to par is interesting.

I do this too. Except on double bogeys I don’t double square it. Also all pars I underline.

I used to use the -1,—,+1 system, but a guy I was playing with one time had a hole In one and I wrote it out as -2. He framed it and I always felt bad because it just looks odd compared to the actual scores.

we always use -1, - , +1 (except at tournaments), had a buddy hit a hole in one. After the round took a fresh scorecard and wrote the actual stroke count on it so he could have that "1" on the scorecard.

I would rather write one number than a number plus a symbol. If I made more pars and birdies I would probably feel differently ~

I use 18 birdies. It tells me where I am to par along with every other stat

Which way do you do it?

I like doing it the way I do it so that I can glance at the card and quickly see pars, bogies, birdies, etc. and get a feel of how the round is going.

I purposely don't tally my score. I feel like it fricks with my game and I like to have the mentality that what i scored so far has zero effect on what i need to do on the next hole unless its a competition or match play
