Pay attention to someone who’s in a wheelchair and can’t do the things that you can do now but are about to not be able to do because of your health. Sign up for a 5k in 6 months and start working towards that race. Get a smart watch track all your metrics and daily chip away at improvements. Weigh yourself daily. After you run that race watch the people around you some old some crippled some overweight and set your sights on running a marathon.
A great listen is Peter attia and his book outlive and how he approaches living and setting out for training for the things you want to be able to do when you turn 100 years old.

You don’t have to go inside. You don’t even have to get out of your car. Just get to the parking lot and sit there for 15 minutes.
Do this 2-3 times and report back.

Small consistent changes lead to large-scale improvement over time. What I'm getting at is don't dive head-first into the pool. Perhaps start your day with a 10-15 minute walk every morning. After a couple months see how you look and feel. Depending on how sedentary you are you'll likely feel and look much better which sparks motivation and helps to develop your discipline.
If the walking starts to help then try to start cutting some processed foods out of your diet. Now you're moving more and eating a little better. Give it a couple more months and you've started to foster some better lifestyle habits. Odds are by this time you're walking faster and further.
At this point the best thing you can do for you BP is to lose some weight and to accomplish this you need to eat less and move more. Most people go all-out in the beginning and just burn themselves out winding right back where they started from. That's why I stress making one smallish change and giving it a couple months before you make another change.

HTN + Extensive family Hx of Cardiovascular Disease. I would not wait around for it to come down. That’s my unprofessional opinion. Get on an ACE or an ARB, get right with your health, check BP weekly at home with a log, get off meds when the time is appropriate.

Good advice. Losing weight doesn’t have to be hours of monotonous treadmill walking. It can be swimming, pickle ball, shooting hoops, or walking the dog a couple extra times a day. It’s just about moving more and eating less. Do something you enjoy, you’ll feel better too. Good luck.

Personal story:
In shape until age of 25 then oven next 30 yrs steadily gained. 55 now
Got on scale in middle December -- 344lbs -- damn.
2 months later down to 304lbs.
Currently only doing 10k+ steps a day
Eating only real food -- no process ? no fast food.
Shooting for 160g of protein a day and less then 50 carbs. Not being overly strict if have family event or dinner out just stay within real food realm. Bend don't break mindset.
Will add GLPs once reach a platuo.
Will also be adding weight resistant when I get to 275 as reward/goal.
So yes if this old fart can push restart I know you can.

Did they test other things like Apo-B?? My provider tests way more than cholesterol panel that provide more info.

As everyone here is probably going to say, you don't need to step foot* in a gym to lose weight. Your excess weight is 85% diet.
A lot of people pretend like CICO (calories in vs calories out) isn't the end all be all, but trust me. It works.
Find out what your BMR is. That number is how many calories your body burns just being alive. The calories you burn throughout the day is extra.
If you eat a little more than your BMR, be sure to burn through that many calories throughout your day, you WILL lose weight.
There are a LOT of other factors that people will probably post about how not all calories are created equal. This is true. If you eat a chocolate bar vs eggs, or carbs, you won't feel full... you'll be malnourished etc etc. Just count your calories, and use common sense about what food you are putting into your body and the rest will take care of itself.
The gym is for getting healthier and stronger. The more muscle the more energy you burn. So that is also good and true. Your diet can probably fix a lot of your BP. You can do some light consistent gym work if you want to, or just daily walks to get your cardiovascular health in check.
If you're younger than mid to late 50's, I'm a big fan of finding a bjj gym to join. For me, the gym was always a dreaded process also b/c it's just not fun to me. I needed something to really help distract me. bjj is an absolute blast.
Nutshell: count your calories and don't cheat - find something fun you enjoy doing, since the gym is boring and just work.

I’ll add this regarding your health: go get a full heart workup and stress test including a calcium score. You are a prime candidate for early death due to cardiac disease. You need to know now where you stand. Bloodwork only tells 1/2 of the story, if that.

I would love to join a bjj gym but I'm old (40), fat (270), have the flexibility of a loblolly pine, and can't turn my brain off to function in instinct. It's be an incredibly embarrassing experience and no one who had to work with me would be cool with it.

This is solid, btw, you aren’t going to die. I understand everyone else seems to have it all together but in truth, nobody really does. Try to start moving a little, maybe clean out your vehicle, maybe move some stuff in the garage around. Doesn’t matter if it needs it or not. I’m going thru the same thing, I’ve been in your/my position many times unfortunately, but I just want you to know you aren’t alone. I struggle to get out of bed a lot of days. Main thing is don’t worry about where others may be at and what you were. Just now, small steps, move a little, things will get easier.

Sugar is killing you bro! Go Carnivore and get in the gym, 30 minutes of weights and walk 20 minutes.
Getting the first day under your belt is super motivating for you. Just go. And don’t stop.

I'm almost 43. Started a little less than a year ago.
You absolutely can join. Scope around your area and meet the instructors. Some gyms will be better than others for you.
It will change your life. I assure you.
Yeah, you may have a few pounds on you, but you will 1000% lose weight if you try, at all, to watch your calorie intake. Even if only bc you wanna start getting better at BJJ you'll just naturally make some changes and deductions.
You'll never feel more alive and motivated. And.... Above all else? It's insanely fun. Hard work? Yep. Fun AF.
Oh, and the right gym ain't gonna give a damn if you're fat. Plenty of chunky warriors out there. Go find a few local gyms and just talk to a few instructors. At worst, you waste an hour or two meeting folks. At best, your whole life can change.
