Is it weird that a leg exercise hits my traps better than anything else?

I’ve tried exercises like shrugs and upright rows in the past, but they never did anything for me.
There’s only one exercise that sets my traps on fire. You can really feel it the next day. Step-ups on a bench with 70 lb dumbbells in each hand for 3 sets of 10.
You might say, well it’s basically the same action as farmer carries. Funny thing is, I’ve tried those before and they don’t hit my traps either. There’s just something about stepping up onto the bench with the dumbbells that just lights them on fire.
I don’t even prioritize traps at all because this exercise hits them so good. They’re probably one of my more prominent features.

To get my traps warm, I do dumbbell RDL’s and slightly swing my hands back to my butt when I stand up.
I hear ya. They get warm quick.

Traps are best stimulated with exercises that retract the scapula, not exercises that elevate the shoulders. High rows, Kelso shrugs, etc. Also, soreness is not a good measure of an exercise’s effectiveness

I agree with the first part.

Nothing built my taps better than heavy arse shrugs.
