Update this thread. I'm curious to see how your stats change.

There's an entire subreddit (and a 500 page Letsrun thread) of success stories. People in the 40s are beating PRs from their 20s apparently

I've always known about run slower to run faster. But I never looked that deep into it. Zone 2 running is more like a walk.

I'll have to check it out, that has my interest piqued.

I’ve been doing mostly zone 2 runs with a threshold every week. My threshold has been a sustained effort and not intervals as described. I just recently started adding cross training in a 130-145HR. The thought is that it’s still zone 2, but an effort different than running. Just to build volume.

I’ll put together a plan and run it for 6 months. I’ve reluctantly started the gym again. I desperately need to gain some muscle.

Strong performance, congrats

What did your weekly mileage look like? I ask bc i’m hoping to shave about a minute and a half off mine and go sub-1:20 in Houston in a few weeks

3 miles of zone 2 followed by 4 miles of threshold. Xmas light run with the group and burgers and beers after. Pushed a stroller with the grandkid. Hats off to the dads out there doing this shite. It’s hard.

I have been in the 50-70 mile range a lot the last 2-3 years. Recently lower in the 30-40 range with some issues popping up. Wasn’t expecting to be in that good shape

6 miles tonight. Did most in zone 2, but mixed in some lactate threshold intervals per the Norwegian protocol. 2 half mile sprints at HR 165 with a 2 min cool down. 1 half mile sprint at HR 175. So, 2 at LT1 and 1 at LT2. I see the appeal as these are way easier than the VO2 intervals I’ve done in the past. Much more comfortable.

1.5 hrs on the treadmill this AM which I hate, but woke up late and missed my run group. HR 142. Felt good. Easy zone 2

Did anyone do the New Orleans outlast race today? 5k every hour on the hour for 6 hours.

I think about it every year, then nope.

One year, I swear I'm going to do it.

We will be in Baton Rouge for Christmas and need to get a long run in on the 27th. Does varsity sports have any planned runs that weekend? I need 11 miles and the wife needs to get in 17. Other than the levy or multiple loops around campus I am not sure where to get these in

This is my go to for long runs. No cars, bike traffic is manageable. You should give Varsity a call. I'm sure they can tell you quickly.

This really doesn’t sound too awful. Just depends on how hard you’re going in the 5ks.

I haven't seen the New Orleans results yet but judging by the other cities, I don't think it's super competitive. A 20 minute average will get you 2nd in the country right now.

Are you serious? Dang. I really do need to commit to training for it one year. Not that I think I'd podium, but I could definitely be competitive.

Any “ultra” in the metro area doesn’t draw a crowd plus being on the Northshore for a sort of gimmicky race won’t get anyone super competitive out there.

I just checked the course map for the New Orleans marathon that's returning in 2026....yikes

I guess they couldn't get police or permits for an actual scenic route and came up with this instead.

Haven't posted in awhile, finally feel as good as I did pre injury now. Did 6 miles on trails yesterday and today, will do 4 or 5 on street tomorrow to give my legs a little rest from the climbs.
