Did a short run to try and feel out the cold weather for LA Half Marathon on Sunday. Its going to be cold. What gear is everyone wearing?

I'm not running this year but last year was pretty cold at the start too. I wore gloves and half tights, and had a throwaway long sleeve shirt on until right before the gun went off. I just tossed it over the barricades before the start

Get some throwaway stuff to get rid of as you warm up. It also goes to a good cause as it's given to homeless people.

I assumed it was donated like other marathons do, but didn't want to guess. The good news is that the weather should be virtually perfect for the race. To warm up I just did laps around the quad of the Capitol. It's about 400m if you do the little rectangle right behind the start line so it's convenient.

Mid 30s at the start…hmm…personally, I’d probably would go shorts/half tights, a short sleeve shirt, gloves. Everyone is different though. If you’re running 1:50+ pace, maybe a long sleeve shirt or light pullover.

Think I’m pivoting from my usual half marathon on 1/25 to the 10 mile race in Kenner on 1/24. Bummer to not go and crush a 13.1 PR, but just too much work getting the family to Gulf Shores. 10 mile could be fun and if I’m in the shape I think I’m in, I could get a podium spot at this one.

To be fair, I'm assuming that too. But it's a big enough marathon that I can't imagine they don't.

30 mins on the treadmill this AM in zone 1 recovery.
5 miles zone 2 this PM with 1 mile uphill threshold pace.
Felt good. Drank beer. Ate pizza.

Same as last year. Shorts, throw away sweatshirt dropped at about mile 3 gloves that I will probably lose at mile 7.
I could be wrong but i don’t think last year was this cold?!

Maybe slightly colder this year. Last year it didn't get above 55 and we had that huge snow a few days later. It was super windy during the race too. My little arse was tucked in behind people and I'd bridge the gap to the next group when the wind slowed down

I'm trying to meet PR this year. I'm thinking of following my time Pacer. Is that a good idea? I'm worried the pacer might start too fast. Any advice is appreciated

Last year I saw a pace group start WAY too fast. I don't remember which group it was, but I was going 7:00 pace off the line, chatted with some guys who were targeting a sub-3, and this pacer was ahead of all of us. If I were you I'd take it out controlled and find your pacer around mile 2 or 3 once they've settled down. I'm also pretty sure the big overpass is within the first mile so don't panic if you're slower than goal pace there.
Keep in mind that GPS may not be great at the start. It's better for you to run 10 seconds too slow for your first mile than 10 seconds too fast.

Depends if the pacer knows wtf they are doing. Sometimes they get folks with zero experience. I ran La with pacer one year and it was pretty perfect pace wise. I fell off the last couple of miles but that’s on me.
