Just signed up for the Mardi Gras 5k. Probably will be too early and cold for my wife and kids to get out there.

Yep I'm signed up too but I doubt my wife and kid will be out there. No idea what my pace is going to be. Kind of just winging it

Sent! Like I said, no clue on the pace so if you see me limping across the finish line you'll know I got it wrong

Railway? I’m running the half. Doing the same thing. No plan, just showing up.

If you want to try to keep up with me you are more than welcome to... my current strategy is going to be to keep it between 8:00 and 8:30 with a 6/1 run/walk method for at least 14 miles. After that depending on how I'm feeling I'll keep it 6/1 or drop it down to 6/:30 or just all run and finish strong.

Main concern is parking. That lot isn’t very big.

Super flat. Showing up with no plan, base training, and most likely a new pair of shoes getting their first miles. YOLO.

Ran intervals with the group tonight. 4 x 1/4 mile. Drank beer, ate wings.

Great course, 5 miles from my house as well. The trail is a bit longer than 8 miles one way as well, so if you do 1 out and back it's 16 miles. They are working to extend it on both sides as well.

Needless to say I'm happy that such a place exist so close to my house, and I've started using it a lot recently, basically for 30 to 40 percent of my runs.

I totally forgot to respond to your email. I got a packet pickup reminder from the race and I was like oh shite

Gonna kill 2 birds with 1 stone by answering your question and putting my race plan in writing for the baws in the thread. My Garmin is predicting an 18:45 which I think is way too fast. I've been doing Norwegian singles workouts for about a month and the book has recommendations on predicting your race pace from those. That puts me somewhere between a 19:15 and 19:30, which sounds much more realistic. I'm going to try to pace the first mile around 6:15-6:17 and see how I feel.

ETA also this is my first race (longer than a mile) since I was diagnosed with T1D, so it's kind of a trial run for what does and doesn't work for me. Hopefully it goes well and I can have a similar race day routine for the CCC

Damn dude, you’ll be going out faster than me

My watch says 19:30, which is probably right but I was sick last week, girls are sick again this week, and I haven been able to run like I thought I would this week. I was hoping to knock out a 5x1k Tuesday morning to assess/reaffirm I have 19:59 pace in my legs right now but girls kept us up all Monday night.

Is yalls race Saturday? I have one also and while my main goal is to see if I can still go sub 20 (actually my main, main goal is to see if I can beat/push my daughter to her first sub 20) I'd really love to be closer to 19:40 or so. Sounds like we're all in the same boat.

Did my last mini workout Monday
1k- 3:47
800- 3:01
2x400- 1:25
2x200- 40

Hay is in the barn I suppose.

Yep, Mardi Gras 5k on Saturday morning. I'm glad I'm only doing the 5k. The 10k is the same course, just twice. I think that would kill me mentally.

At this point I'm more confident in you and jordan going sub 20 than I am in myself

Just finished my last workout before the race. 3x10:00 at 7:00/mi pace, 90 seconds rest between.

I just don’t trust my legs right now. Pretty sure I’m getting whatever my girls have and just not feeling as fit as I did 2 weeks ago. Guess that’s what happens when you go from 40+ mpw to 5

It's an out and back but the wind will be at my back going uphill and in my face going downhill so maybe it'll all even out lol

Got me some Chinese carbon shoes today. Li Ning Feidian 5 Challenger $90 on Amazon. Reviews are really good for these and I’m considering racing in them tomorrow. Step in feel is similar to my Adios Pro 3 or Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. Gonna do my warm up miles in them and make a game day decision.
