19:13 official. Finally!!

Met up with Ingeniero - I’ll let him chime in but he got sub 20 too.

Perfect day for racing.

Awesome! Congrats man, it's a great feeling! I still went under 20 but barely, 19:56 it was freezing and windy but not terrible. Daughter pr'd at 20:10 but i keep bragging rights for a few more weeks at least.

Yep, good stuff out there. I knew you had sub 20 and when you passed me I thought you might dip under 19!

19:21 official for me. I've been on the Norwegian singles workouts for a month and I already feel more fit than I've been in years. It's got me thinking I can PR even in my 30s. I'll see you at some more New Orleans races!

So basically you run 3 workouts a week, 3 easy runs, and 1 easy long run. The workouts are slower than your lactate threshold pace and the idea is that by doing 3 of them a week, you're stacking more volume than you could with more intense workouts. Every week is the same 3 workouts: 10x3:00 at your 10 mile or 15k pace (60 seconds rest), 5x6:00 at your half marathon pace (60 seconds rest), and 3x10:00 at your 30k pace (90 seconds rest). Everything else is super easy to let your body recover.

This link is a calculator someone built to determine your paces from a recent race. It sounded like a crazy method at first but a ton of people on LetsRun have used it and it's been working great for me too. The guy who came up with it was an ok cyclist in the UK who discovered that he liked running. He applied cycling's philosophy of sweet spot training to running and this was the result. He recently won the UK Masters national championship in the 5k running a 15:04 in his 40s, and he's done a 2:24 marathon with just a few tweaks to the plan.

Highly, highly recommend it. I feel fresher and faster than I have on any other training plan.

I need to get down to one of these flat bayou runs some time and see what that does for me. Even the relatively flat courses in north ga have some hills to deal with

That calculator would have me running even slower than I do now.

Ran a half today with zero race prep, zero mileage build, nada. Just my standard workouts of intervals, a medium distance run, and a weekend long run (under 30 miles a week). 20 secs/mile off my PR time. Felt amazing all the way to miles 12-13. Really got on the struggle bus at that point and just held on. Do that every half. Think 15k is my sweet spot.

The 5k today has 7 feet of elevation gain. It was a little bridge over a canal

I'm not built for the mountain goat shite that you Georgia and Alabama guys race!

Awesome. Just missed a PR. Loved the course. Wish I’d had more support, but I understand why.

Got me some Chinese carbon shoes today. Li Ning Feidian 5 Challenger $90 on Amazon

A follow up on this: I did my warmup miles in them before the 5k yesterday. Almost raced in them but I prefer the rocker on my Adios Pro 3 for racing.

That said, anyone who was a fan of the Endorphin Pro 3 will like these Li Ning’s. It’s an incredibly lightweight upper with a beaded PEBA foam and carbon plate. Lots of bounce without feeling mushy. Sizing is TTS, unless you like to have a full thumb at the toe, I’d say maybe go up half size. Ordering on Amazon is tricky because they put all of the Feidian line under one page, so you have to know what you are looking at. Most of them have coupons to get $20+ off.

This is a legit shoe brand. They have another line called Red Hare that is their daily/comfort shoe. They just released the Red Hare 9 Ultra and it’s gotten really good reviews. Chinese shoes are gonna make some waves in 2026 I think.

Adios Pro 3 for racing.

What's your daily trainer? I wore my Asics Metaspeed Edge yesterday and for my HM last year, but I'm considering the Adios Pro when it's time for a new pair. I wear the Evo SL for my workouts so I'm wondering if the Adios Pro would pair well as a race day shoe

My daily/long run shoe is the On Cloudmonster Hyper. Probably my all time favorite shoe, I’m on my third pair.

The Adios Pro 3 is discontinued but you can sometimes find deadstock on eBay. I raced in the Vaporfly Next% 2 before and for my running style the AP3 is wayyy better. I’ve heard the AP4 is good, but they went to a new midsole foam that is softer. The Evo SL is actually the same foam as the AP3. If you aren’t a Clydesdale like me, the AP4 would probably suit you well and you can often find it on sale for $170 or less.

30 miles yesterday was supposed to be a 50 miler but I tapped out.
The last 5 miles I was struggling and barely able to run and my math had me missing the cutoff.
I misjudged the terrain and ran my first 10mile loop too fast 11-12min miles and paid for it on the back end. Having only run a 50k and two marathons before it’s deceiving how much running you have left after 30 miles. Nutrition was not an issue so back to the drawing board and I have the rest of the year to get a 50 miler in my 50th year.

Heads up, sierra.com has some Speedland RX:FPY in an almost full size run for $119. I snagged a pair to try out. They also have a decent amount of New Balance SC Elite V3 and 1080v14 for under $100.

3 mile walk today with a mix of a few mins of jogging throughout. Legs stiff but no ITB pain so grateful for that, gonna take it slow all week.
