Is it safe to apply pre-emergent (prodiamine) and the winter weed cocktail this time of year?

Or better yet can I mix them all together and spray in one pass or would that be a mistake?

The only downside would be activation.

You need rain for the pre emergent, but you don't want rain for the cocktail.
Pre emergent needs to go into soil
post emergent needs to sit on the grass and be absorbed.

That's where you run into the slight problem if it'll rain too soon.

If you live near LA/TX/MS you're probably getting rain soon.
You can put down the pre now and spray the cocktail when you can expect 2-3 days of sun.
I may be being dramatic, but I wouldn't wait another day on the pre emergent given the temps we've had and will continue to have.

60s is your 5-day average?

according to greencast is was 53 on the 8th and had been in the 50's for a while and then jumped to 65 on the 9th and has been in the low to mid 60's the past 4 days. I'm putting dimension out tomorrow. Supposed to start raining tomorrow night and then rain all day sunday.

You’re not lying….. we went from having lows in the 20’s one week to highs near 80 a week and a half later

Yep! The pattern switch is real, and that sun angle is already improving daily.
I'm ready for some real green up already!

I don't need a new thread for this question - but I have a mix of bermuda and fescue (it's too much to fix), bermuda will be dormant here until at least April (Nashville area). There are a multitude of weeds spread throughout. What's the best thing to hit it with right now?

Just put mine down. I used blue marker dye so now I look like I gave papa smurf an HJ. My damn dewalt backpack sprayer started leaking on its second use.

Trimec: LINK

Your winter weeds may need two apps 21 days apart because they are probably mature by now.

I just put mine down before the rain. It was perfect timing. I’m trying a Specticle granular. I have to beat this doveweed this year. I’ll report results this summer.

I also wanted to try Specticle because it says it controls sunflower and sand burr. The sunflowers in grand isle are a beast. They grow 10’ on the levee and I can’t see the beach. They grow so fast that if you miss a cut you can’t get a mower through them.

Thats why I did mine yesterday but now I'm worried it all ended up washed down the road. The rain got pretty damn heavy last night.

Should be good. I had .95” in Thibodaux. We needed it pretty bad. This is the best my yard has ever looked while dormant. In the past I have had spots that I couldn’t figure out. I put down everything this year for fungus and bugs and I fertilized through October. March 15th I’m putting 30-0-0 to get this zoysia going early this year.

Last year was the first time I had ever done the fall preemergent. Right now I have barely any "green" weeds popping up. Yard is just brown. Lol.

I put out my dimension yesterday and I got .6 inches of rain last night. I hope that was enough.

I like to lay down some prodiamine spray on Vday in Lafayette as it tends to nail as a postemergent, some left over winter weeds and sticker weed I missed earlier, while the Bermuda is still dormant and then you also have the spring preemergent.

?? Did you mis-word this? Prodiamine is a pre-emergent, it has no post-emergent efficacy on winter weeds.

It’s not too late to apply pre-emergent herbicide. The sooner the better, but it must be watered in (rain or sprinklers) soon after.

Granular, right. No need to water in liquid (generic prodiamine “old yeller” as I call it).

Both granular and liquid (spray) pre-emergents need to be watered in - the active ingredient needs to be moved to the soil surface where the weed seeds are located to “kill” the weed seed embryos when they germinate. Even with a spray formulation of pre-emergent most-much of the compound will adhere to the grass blades and not make contact with the soil unless watered in. This is stated on the herbicide label - unfortunately you have to read all the “fine print”.

Prodiamine 65WDG Label - read the last paragraph, page 7
