My washer does the same thing. Protip. Just unplug it for a minute and it will reset and you will be washing clothes again in no time.
God invented mechanical switches and machines that spin, rock, bounce, agitate and fill with water to go together.

common sense 101 says electronics are the dumbest idea ever for a washing machine.

The house I just purchased game with a top load GE washer and I can't stand it. If you throw more than a few towels in it, it throws the spin cycle off and they don't completely try. Tried a heavy fleece blanket once and they hold so much water it was slamming into the sides and shutting itself down. Even after making sure the weight of the wet towel was well distributed inside, it still threw the entire thing off

Last time it happened I I went online and found some way to override it, lucky for me. Unluckily for my husband, he was the next one to wash something and the code reappeared, but he couldn’t make it go away.

I will let him know, thanks. We will both appreciate it!

Top load Speed Queen washer without lid lock.

Period.

Anything else is going to disappoint you, and it is well worth the extra couple hundred $$$.

I’m not sure if all the newer washers have the locking lid but I absolutely hate it

Speed Queen TC5 is the only one on the market without a lid lock.

Speed Queen is the only answer here. We replaced our Maytag washer with a Speed Queen. Wife couldn't be happier.

Bought a new SQ washer and dryer 3-4 months ago..... wife loved it at first.... now the dryer balls sheets up and she is raising hell. No lid lock was the selling point for the washer and the pair cost about twice as much.... but the sheets thing is becoming an issue.

Anyone else having this problem?

Word of advice on Maytag large tub, top load with no agitator. Don’t overload it. Mine was 5 years old and just had to replace the main driver low/no profile agitator as it stripped the metal gear out.

meanwhile maytags built in the 1980s just keep on going.

its sad how we 'out engineer' something that was working just fine in the name of progress.

Speed Queen from a locally owned appliance store is the only way to go.

Exactly right. I pulled the low profile agitator plate off, and the metal gears had completely stripped and were sheared off from the bizarre action of trying to agitate clothes without the traditional tower agitator. Dumbest thing ever.

I know setting your own water level was vilified thanks to energy star but what did the lowly agitator ever do to deserve to be put down?

My ancient Kenmore set lets me adjust the water level and can knock out a load of clothes in the time it takes me to brew a pot of coffee and I haven't had to fix a damn thing.

I guess that wasn't good enough f to be considered "green"

Good advice. K-pop can be annoying.

Speed Queen w/ agitator and knob controls and don't look back.

I have a set of Speed Queens. I might buy them again but I would shop around first. I may have had too high expectations. First, the washer does have a circuit board. My washer will randomly not drain and spin, open it when it's done to find the clothes sitting in a couple inches of water and have to then set to spin only cycle. It will also not turn on occasionally, requiring me to unplug it for 10 minutes or so.

The dryer is completely mechanical. It's two years old and squeaks and squeals like a motherfricker. I need to open it up and lube bearings and belts. I should not have to do that on a relatively new dryer.

Otherwise they work fine. They were far more expensive than the regular brand models. Not sure it's worth the price difference.

I'd be more inclined to find some dude that repairs and sells old shite and buy a set off him form 20 years ago.

shite, add that to my issues too. I never really thought much about it. But yes, if you wash sheets, a comforter or duvet cover, plan to take it out, unball it and throw it back in a few times. I just chalked it up to sheets being sheets and all, but didn't have that problem with my old maytag.

To O.P. -

We purchased that exact Maytag set a year ago for our new house. So far we absolutely love it. Massive load capacity. Easy operation.

You can try adding 3-4 wool dryer balls to help fluff the sheets and prevent them from balling up. If that doesn’t work, you will have to dry the sheets in 2 separate batches.
