They will figure it out. Frank isn't going anywhere.
The only way to figure it out is retain him as RB coach, which isn’t happening.

There is no other realistic way.

It’s not that simple, though I wish it was.
Who can ‘create’ when there’s nothing there?
Whe the play is called - not Franks responsibility, who gives you the best chance of success knowing:
A. Your line is shite.
B. The TE’s don’t block worth shite.
C. Your QB is a head case.

So they could just make Frank an analyst who is designated as an off campus recruiter and just make one of these other offensive assistants that Lane brings not an off campus recruiter? Idk which one but one of them probably isn't a great recruiter. He has 2 WR coaches, an OC, a Co-OC, and a QB coach. Seems like 1 or 2 of those guys could hand their recruiting duties to Frank

You can break it up how you want it. You don't need 2 DB,DL, or WR coaches either. Give him a title, let him recruit. 10 are on field, the others are analysts. Make him associate or assistant HC, he doesn't need a position groups to be an on field coach.

Let’s break it down. 11 off-campus recruiting personnel allowed:

HC - Lane Kiffin
OC - Charlie Weis Jr
DC - Blake Baker

O-Line- TBD (Eric Wolford?)
RB - Kevin Smith
TE - Joe Cox
WR - George McDonald

DT - Elijah Robinson
EDGE - Kevin Peoples
CB - Corey Raymond
S - Jake Olsen

One of these coaches is not going to take a demotion to an analyst role. And you can’t designate an analyst as an off campus recruiter.

The only way I see it happening (if Kevin Smith is hired, of course) is if Eric Wolford is an analyst and LSU goes without an O-Line assistant. I haven’t heard what his role would be, but we still would need an O-Line assistant. Going without one is not happening.

You can have more than 10 on-field gameday coaches, i.e. coaches with headsets on the sideline. You can make Frank whatever you want him to be. He doesn't have to be an analyst.

What do you mean by make Frank whatever you want him to be?

First of all, he already stated he will not stay unless he’s an assistant, and I don’t blame him.

Second, he can’t be an assistant with the current 8 (+ O-Line & Kevin Smith) assistants under contract. He can’t recruit off campus as an analyst.

I understand we would like to keep Frank, but if he's demanding to be an on field coach and Kiffin doesn't want but wants to have him as recruiting coordinator, then he's gone.

I'd like to be president of Nvidia but if their board doesn't want, then I guess I can't lol

The NCAA effectively ended limits on on-field football coaches in June 2024, allowing unlimited staff to provide technical/tactical instruction during practice and games, removing previous restrictions on "countable" coaches, while maintaining limits (Head Coach + 10 assistants) for off-campus recruiting to preserve recruiting balance. This lets programs utilize analysts and quality control coaches for on-field work, modernizing staffing and potentially increasing coaching opportunities and specialized roles.

It's simple, ask one of the new offensive coaches that isn't good at or does not like to recruit not to. Let Frank keep associate head coach and handle recruiting duties for the new assistant and allow him to be on field since on field roles are no longer limited. I really don't think anyone wants to see Frank go elsewhere...but then again money only stretches so far and maybe they want to use it on the new assistants...

The only thing calling him an analyst would mean is that he wouldn’t be able to recruit off campus. He’s an older guy and may be perfectly content to just coach and not worry about recruiting.

He is a good recruiter, not a good coach. He needs to be told he will recruit and do nothing else.

If Frank is so good, why don't we have any running backs? Why don't we have more O Linemen? Why don't we have a QB in this class?

Hire Kevin Smith as an analyst technically working under Frank, but pay him like an FT assistant. No limits there I believe.

If I’m Kiffin this is how it goes down.
Tell Frank:
you’re the #1 recruiter in the nation and I want it to stay that way. So handle the recruiting and HELP with the RB room. Here’s what that job pays.

As far as the position group goes Kevin will be my lead RB guy but with your support. Both of you are important to the success of my team and this strengthens our staff.

We good?

This is what I've been thinking but do no trust my "expertise" on putting together coaching staffs. Someone on the staff has to be the worst recruiter but loves to coach? IDK, I would hate to lose Frank as a recruiter. I'm not worried with Kevin Smith coming in with the whole coaching running backs thing, that guy is really good.

Do you believe the list? Alabama doesn’t have a recruiter in the top 50?

If he won’t accept a non-field role, he can carry his arse.

I guarantee you FW had visions of Alleva’s rage hire of O in 2016 and thought some way somehow he’d end up with the permanent job and is pissed it didn’t happen.

Lol at these “keep Wilson at any cost!” cultists. He’s outlasted his usefulness.
