Are PFF grades accessible or just via membership?

Because they played him out of position. He is a guard but the LT was real bad so they tried him there and he struggled. No shock there

Have to pay, or if you ask hard enough on here people usually post them, I've had a PFF sub for years myself because I'm a stats nerd

With the portal and so much unknown it helps to normalize things and show how players really played. PFF isnt the end all be all opinion but how else are we supposed to know how some dude from the MEAC played on OL

Great. This is a question I have.

What were the PFF grades of the starting OL for Ole Miss this year?

The reason I ask is that Lane's offense consistently performs well at both rushing and passing yet his OL guys can often be 3 star players.

Do they grade out really well? Is it more a factor of his offense than the player?

If its Lane's offense, then should we be concerned with what a players PFF grades were at another school?

The PFF grades are laughable. I paid attention to our OL and nuss last year when they were getting grades in the 70’s and 80’s. The defense was shutting out people with player grades in the 60’s. Then the defense doesn’t play well and their grade went up.

We don't just need starters. We need 10 lineman overall so we can practice effectively. We need 100% need 7 to 8 that can play. Guys get rolled up, helmets come off, and other weird scenarios. Then we need a few guys that will be good teammates and work.

Matt Flynn was pointing out some weaknesses of PFF grades yesterday. He was saying you can grade the physical aspect of football players but unless you know the assignments, coverages, route or blocking concepts and what coaches are teaching, the mental aspect, like missed assignments, is at best guesswork.

And professional & college scouts, coaches, personnel guys etc who all use it as a reference point.

Overall
LT Pounds 62.4
LG Townsend 57.0
C Sanders 59.1
RG Kutas 64.6
RT Williams 69.7

Run block
LT Pounds 51.7
LG Townsend 54.4
C Sanders 56.1
RG Kutas 65.0
RT Williams 60.8

You'll notice the overall grades tend to be higher than the run block grades especially among the tackles, its because their tackles had really good pass blocking grades.

I did an analysis on 113 SEC Olinemen who played at least 150 snaps this season, only 15% graded out 70 or higher run blocking vs. almost 50% for pass blocking

Symptom of the spread shotgun offense times with linemen in 2 point stances mostly

Here's the thing about PFF Grades:

Are they perfect? No, no opinion based thing will ever be perfect.

Is it directionally pretty correct? Yeah, otherwise it wouldnt be used by a ton of people who make big decisions

What way is better to determine how players have played you have never watched or maybe watched some "highlight" film on? I'm not sure of one...especially when it comes to things like Olinemen. Remember how pumped people were about Bauer Sharp coming here cause of some tape he had? Dude had all the red flags on PFF grades and sure enough he was crap here.

Some people just like to go on stats for positions but those can still be pretty misleading sometimes, especially on defense. There can be a guy who grades out higher in pass rush than another guy and had half the amount of sacks but he had way better pressure rate overall. Sometimes stats can be a lot of luck, basically. Like INTs for DBs and such (tipped pass, ball thrown right to you, etc).

This is why someone grading every snap someone does is still relevant to look at. Do I agree with every PFF grade in every game of a player? Hell no, over time is it pretty directionally correct though overall? I would think so based upon my eye test of certain players. They had Braelin Moore graded out pretty significantly higher than DJ Chester or Paul Mubenga this season and I think anyone who paid close attention to these guys on the OL would agree with that.

So their grades were similar to ours but they had a 1,500 yard rusher and put up 40 points per game? Is it all scheme?

Tells me their depth was shite. Much like when Davis put in Chester as tackle
