I was in Virginia during high school and since.Anyone that was here in the mid 90's know all bout this guy.
Ronald Curry
51-2 record at the div 5 level.(highest level but for playoffs districts and regions are split into Div 5 and 6.Regular sason they are mixed)
3 straight state titles
1997-98 Gatorade player of the year in football and basketball. Also Mcdonalds player of the year and Mcdonalds game MVP,dunk contest winner in basketball
Played every down at Qb,S,P and KR
Accounted for 185 tds passing, running and returns in career.79 more than the second place guy.
1996 jr. year accounted for 76 tds.27 more than the 2nd place guy all time.Team went 14-0 outscoring opponents 768-83.Won state title game against a Patrick Henry team that was undefeated and had 2 future NFL guys on the team,51-0 in a massive downpour of rain on a grass field.Widely considered the greatest team in VA history. Some say National history. They were unbeatable that year.
Played the same years and in the same district as Micheal Vick.Made Vick a virtual unknown.Vick has even said that he tried to match Curry.
This guy was the top recruit in Football and Basketball in the nation.
Changed comitment form Virginia to UNC because Va wore Addidas nad UNC wore Nike.Caused a huge fuss in VA.This was 1998 before all these recruiting services now.I never saw any of the Evangel kids except for highlights but I have a hard time believing they could match this guy on the high school level. His highlights are available on the internet.Look them up.He was unreal in high school.Showed flashes in college but never lived up to the hype.Made a splash in the NFL.Still hanging on a little.

Allen Iverson?! I saw him play for Bethel High in Hampton, VA, way back in the day: a better QB than a point guard, actually. Even better than AI (nee "Bubbachuck") was a kid named Tom Bailey, QB for Phoebus High, also in Hampton. Tom was going to go play ball for U.VA., but couldn't ever figure out how to spell it....

I saw Shep play 5 times his Sr. year.
I saw Rohan Davey in the Ga./Fla. All-Star game in the Ga. dome.
Both were very good.

The two best, Booty and Berlin......

Bootys Sr. year, the last play of his last game, anyone want to guess the position he played?

You can absolutely make the argument (and I'd agree with you) that Curry was the better player in high school but he was not better at QB than Berlin was.

i havent seen many elite quarterbacks but i can say that i was really impressed with ryan mallett and matt flynn. flynn was a senior when i was a freshman and the guy was a beast. mallett could just plain out-throw anybody ive ever seen

Confederate, you are correct about Iverson.I saw him his Jr. year and he was awesome.Could have played college football easily as a rb/cb/wr guy.He was great at QB in high school because he was so fast and quick for that stage. All around at Qb he was a step below Curry. That's not a putdown.Everyone was a step behind Curry.Micheal Vick was completely unknown to most people because of Curry. No one would have thought Vick would become the star.

Nostradamus,I agree with your point as far as a passer goes. All around(at qb) Curry was more of a playmaker than Berlin easily.Pure passing isn't a contest.Berlin was clearly ahead. Also have to give respect to the systems both ran.Berlin (i assume) was in a wide open passing offense and Curry was basically in a spread before it became the spread.Curry could beat you with his arm but his legs made him the threat he was.Even though most don't consider that a true qb skill,it is when the player is playing QB.Similar comparison would be Leinart/Young.leinart was clearly the better passer but Young's passing along with his legs gave him the egde overall.he could take over a game by himself while leinart needed help to do so.For the record i didn't see Berlin except for highlights so I can't comment on his complete skill package.i just assume from his college days that he wasn't a threat with his legs.Curry basically carried his teams like Young even though there was some serious talent on that team.Interesting discussion.I don't get to see a lot of big time guys here but I have seen some good ones. After Curry the best are Iverson,Brandon minor and the landstown 2 Damon McDaniel and Percy harvin.Harvin was a best in high school. The scariest guy in my are was David Terrell. Some of you may rememberhim form Michigan and the Bears.Sucked in the NFL but was top flight at wr in college. We've got one this year in Curtis Grant a LB at Hermitage High. Our coaches should be all over him.I've actually told some the coaches at Hermitage to put in a good word about LSU.

i've heard either chris landry or mike detellier (don't remember which one) say that mark brunell was the best HS qb he'd ever seen.

Berlin. He beat us his senior year. 2nd round by 6. He was unbelievable. Couldn't get to him and hit every receiver n stride. Best by far. Of course he had Phillip Geiger and those two white receivers that were rediculous.

i saw berlin play alot. he was unreal. most games he whould have over 300 yards at half time and sit out the second half. the game against west monroe in the dome was the best game ive ever been too. what stood out to me was how the rebels handled losing with class. they kneeled down together while evangel celebrated. andrew whitworth was on that west monroe team also.

Josh Booty was the real deal coming out of HS. Of course he never realized his full potential upon returning to football after giving it up for 4 years.

Watched Booty play a couple of games in H.S. and have seen a few good ones play. Have never seen a H.S. kid so far ahead of the competition. Still convinced if he had gone directly to football he would have been incredible.

Yep, I played against both of those teams that year and the year before. It was tough. Evangel was the better team, but I dont think they coulda beat the 98 west monroe team. Hands down Berlin best high school QB I have personally seen or played against
