it’s him backing out of a contract with the school.

Didn’t the DT that was put off the team during the season sign a revenue sharing did this season like all the other players for LSU and they were able to part with him. That goes both ways.

It’s interesting because the portal is still open. If the same player had a change of heart during that period, what’s to stop him from jumping in the portal. He was still able to submit his papers to get in the portal.

Also I can’t remember who said it, but earlier this week some said something to the effect of the NCAA still wins 2/3 of lawsuits against them.
maybe, but this would be between Washington and Demond, no?

And I am sure there is a clause in the deal for breach of contract...would love to see what it is...but Washington denying him entry in the portal is a loser for them...

I would think so. I was just saying that because I feel like the “player wins every lawsuit” narrative is a little overblown.

Agreed. I think that’s just their initial tactic because they were blindsided and have to put up some sort of defense. I think think that’s they will actually try to keep him.

Question for ya’ll after reading ya’ll’s conversation; I know they can’t make him play, but could there be something enforceable in a contract that prevents him from playing for another school? legally…like a non-compete..

I have no clue, but just gut feeling I think that would be extremely difficult for them to do.

like Demond Williams is an “employee” of the university

They can sue him if they gave him money to play and he leaves. I’m sure there’s a contract. It’s not the same at all.

Pretty sure Ole Miss had to pay Walter Nolen's NIL buyout when he transferred there. That was a binding NIL deal. No clue how revenue sharing works but can't be that much different. Just pay his buyout.

There is no legally binding contracts, that’s the issue. Until they start giving out 4 year scholarships that can’t be pulled and every player is basically on a year to year basis, this is the chaos you will get.

Teams would have to start giving out 4 year guaranteed scholarships, and narrow the portal window down to being open 2 days in February. Only way this would somewhat temper down without congress getting involved, or a full players union and CBA.

Why would he not have visited LSU or been linked to LSU prior to accepting the deal he signed with Washington? You would think the interest would have been mutual the whole time given he had been previously linked to Kiffin

True. But I bet every school secretly wants them to go through with the lawsuit and win.

There are 136 FBS football teams according to Google AI. I bet 135 of them are champing at the bit to be the 2nd school to file these suits, but not a single one wants to be the 1st

Who said anything about that? Prevent him from playing CFB ever again. It’s time to enforce contracts in this sport.

The courts have sided with players in every case when it comes to freedom of movement. This won’t be any different.

It’s going to either take congressional action or the P4 splitting off to make players actual employees with contracts and keep something like this from happening again.

For busting an NIL deal before the season starts?

In what world is that a reasonable, equitable remedy?
