They can continue to use his name, image and likeness to sell his LSU jerseys in their bookstore.

We aren’t the only ones that are after him. Miami is coming.

In Louisiana, the state and political subdivisions of the state are not forced to pay legal judgments. They are paid only if appropriations are authorized. New Orleans PD is on the hook for many millions but the city never authorized the funds to pay out.
I say let Washington sue LSU and never appropriate the funds to pay it if determined in court.

Damages from who?
Presumably from Williams. We don’t know what the contract he signed with UW says regarding damages UW may be entitled to if Williams is in breach of the contract.
What’s interesting about that news report is that it implies there is a provision in the contract that UW does not have to allow Williams into the transfer portal if Williams is in breach.
This is posturing by UW at this point by threatening legal action. The most likely result is that some kind of settlement is reached where Williams pays UW some amount (which is likely being negotiated now) and in return, UW lets him out of the contact and allows him to enter the transfer portal.

This is going to be a wonderful thing. Watch what i say. Now every agent is going to tell their clients not to sign with big ten schools.
That agreement says the school keeps the NIL rights even after the contract ends after 1 year and the player cannot enter the transfer portal.
It also says the school determines the damages owed- they are unspecified.
Pass the word! Avoid the Big Ten!!

Wait to see Williams asking for damages if they don't release him quickly.

Player's agent should be reading contracts before his client signs

And maybe schools should write contracts that are enforceable.
We’ll see if they can prevent him from entering the portal or keep him from dropping out and just enrolling somewhere else.

Here’s an article I found which analyzes UW’s standard NIL agreement. Note that the language in Williams’ contract may differ from the form agreement.

Here’s their breakdown of what the form agreement says about damages:

Dellenger is reporting that Washington is refusing to enter Williams into the transfer portal. But that doesn’t matter with this language, because he only has to transfer to trigger it. Washington’s duty to pay him ends, and now he actually owes them money (assuming this language wasn’t negotiated by any reps before it was signed). He would have to pay back anything already received (prorated, but this was recent so he’d probably owe most of anything he’s already been paid), plus him or the new school would have to pay liquidated damages equal to everything Washington hadn’t paid him yet.
Yes, he’d owe money not even paid to him yet. So, between the two clauses, we’re talking about all, or most, of the reported $4 million

Good question, as of now it’s the NCAA portal, so does anyone who contacts his agent at risk?
If he would have done this sooner Biden could have given him a pardon for future crimes or wrong doings!

The provision in William's contract about UW not having to let him transfer is completely unconstitutional. Doesn't matter if his agent was aware of it or not.

What if he was never paid or didn’t spend any of the money?

Problem is not all of these “agents” are actually agents.

Did they pay him anything yet? If so, I'd guess they want that as their damages.
Their claimed damages are going to be whatever the contract says they would be. It’s not automatically pro-rated

The NCAA has very specific rules regarding portal app and timeline. UW is way out of line if they don't abide by the rules.
