most that start that early are repeating

you dont want them turning 18 after high school imo thats very young.

but every person has to do whats right for them

i would hold most kids back if born after january making them 19 when they graduate but i say that and I didnt with my could because every situation has to be evaluated. it wasnt right for mine in that situation. but for most i would say it is.

Being near the cutoff still makes him old for the class. Again, objectively.

Using a date closer to the start of the next school year and not the start of the summer is a better middle ground.

whatever, just saying its not like he is that much older. tons of summer bdays graduating at 18 about to be 19. he is only couple months older than those kids

not like he is turning 19 august 15 before his senior year.

Saying he’ll only be 19y 4mo when he graduates is wild lol

Or just a little older than other kids that are old for the grade, too.

I did lol. Started at 4 years old my birthday is October 22 and had several scholarships for pitching and was 16 my senior year and 17 pitching at Mcneese. I could’ve had at least another 2 years and would have definitely benefited.

What? There are plenty of summer birthdays in all of my kids classes (eventually turning 18 after HS). They’re certainly not repeating anything.

That also corresponds to the traditional calendar. The bigger issue IMO is these parents holding back kids significantly older than the traditional grade ages simply so the can have a better chance at standing out in things. The ones that end up being 1.25-1.5 years older than some of their new peers.

Why is them making the smart decision an issue?

The rule is simple, can’t turn 19 before aug 1st of senior year.

Every kid, family, school plays by that same rule….so why the bitching. If you decide to not hold your kid back…that’s a decision you made as a family. I made that exact same decision with my high schooler because sometimes there are other factors than just maturity, academics, sports.

But in general, most kids are better off with another year in your house, under your guidance before the head off on their own. They have their whole life to work and pay bills, shouldn’t be in a hurry to start.

Only a dumb arse selfish dad would waste that playing football.

My son was born in October and will turn 19, 5 months after graduation. It was the rules, we had no choice.

And if he was born in September, and not held back, he would turn 18 , five months AFTER graduation

Yall stop bitching lol, he was 14 during his 8grade football season. He'll be 15 during his freshman year of football season. 18 when his senior year rolls around, i'm from New Orleans and this was the norm lol. Some was even 19 right after the season started. if he was from south la there would be nothing but praises, stop being jealous lol

If he truly runs a legitimate 10.2, then there is no reason to subject him to a sport where they are taking shots at his legs.
He should nurture that God given gift. Not everyone gets faster, but at his age, its almost guaranteed with proper training. If for some reason, it doesnt work out..Great, play football then, and be one of the faster at that position.

Another point is the workouts differ in approach, especially with weight, size, muscle etc

A 10.2 placed 9th at the SEC Outdoor championship last May
