It was probably either or, I’m guessing.

Backfield needs all the help they can get after that bowl game performance.
quote:Yeah we've already got 2 sure fire starters in Pickett and Cooley, and two rotational pieces in Spears in Woodland.
LOL at the posters that said we already had bodies at safety and cb.
We don't need a total overhaul of the defensive backfield. We need a couple (at most) plug and play pieces like Benefield.

More than anything he gives you flexibility. Dudes a menace everywhere on the field.

Woodland and spears are starters. Anding and brown are your cb 3-4, and spears, cooley, benefield will be your 3 starting safeties rotating.

Woodland.
Not a rotational piece. Woodland is a starter and a very good one. He was very good all year.

And tied a career high 4 passing tds. At one point hit 9 passes in a row. His 2nd highest passer rating of the season. 2nd highest completion % of the season.
LOL against the 81st passing offense in the country!

I think your defensive backfield looks like this next year:
CB1: Pickett
CB2: Woodland (will move to nickel with 3 CBs on field)
FS: Benefield
SS: Cooley
Star: Spears
Spears & benefield will be interchangeable and that will be a plus for the defense.

I think Cooley really needs to be the star with Ty at SS and Spears at FS.

Aren't we pursuing another safety in Koi Perich as well?

Cooley’s best position is nickel back
They could still fit Perich. It wouldn’t be hard to justify his experience over Spears
