Looking at the Rivals rankings, Joyner is ranked 15th. Scout has him at 20. So I don't think anyone has him as a top 10 guy.
FSU recruited Greg Reid last year, who was listed at 5'8, 175. So basically a similar statured guy and he was one of the best young corners in America.
Joyner is certainly short, but the reason Peterson was the best corner in the decade is because of his unbelievable size in combination with unbelievable athleticism. So I don't find that to be a fair comparison.

FSU has new coaches and it would be unfair to claim they cant coach because of the history with previous coaches. Mark Stoops comes from Arizona, where he was very successful coaching DB's.
I consider "BUST", as someone who never sees the field. A waste of a scholarship. Joyner has enough physical attributes that he can contribute more than as a corner.

I read that Alfy Hill and Adrian Hubbard were very impressive during practices and what not. Do you think these will be impact players at Alabama?
Posted on 1/4/10 at 8:17 pm to OBUDan
IMO, Adrian Hubbard is going to be very good. He didnt play football until his senior year, so didnt have the benefit of camps to get his name out. When a kid can make an all star team or a Rivals list with only a senior year resume, then I think it is a safe bet he is sure fire impact player. Then again he may just be part of the Alabama hype machine. FWIW, I read he used and abused JuWuan James(Tenn) all week.

ESPN has him at #5. I think I remember Rivals having Joyner in the top 10 earlier in the year, but I could be wrong.
Joyner v. Peterson is pretty fair IMO. They are both currently ranked as the #1 CBs in their respective classes and ranked within 10 spots or so of one another.

Peterson has the perfect height and long arms for the position. PP is the prototypical corner.
Joyner's ranking has a lot to do with his atheticism and the fact he can make an impact in all three phases.
We still dont know, for sure, what position Joyner will play at FSU. Therefore I dont think it is fair to compare him to PP. Its kind of like comparing John Elway to Doug Flutie.
There are things that PP brings to the table that Joyner doesnt have and vice versa. Bottom line, Joyner will find his way on the field as a corner, safety, slot receiver or return man and he will have a high impact.

Guess we'll see, all I'm saying is that size shouldn't deem him a bust. Especially considering he plays so big for his size. If he was small and soft, I could potentially agree, but this guy hits like a LBer... he's dynamite.

thanks for posting that. I came away pretty impressed with Dyer from all accounts and the practices/game. He didn't get the rock much (surprise surprise in all star games), but his speed on that shovel pass shocked the $hit out of me. Really excited about him

IMO, Dyer is the best back in the country.

Alfy Hill is very athletic and fast. Not very strong right now.Hubbard has special potential.Depending on the size he adds and doesn't lose that athleticism, he could be special.I like Hubbard a little more to be honest.Hubbard was invited to the Under Armour game because of espn. Not saying he didn't prove that he belonged, just that espn considered him their find and wanted him there to prove it.The only question whether both will be good is that they are being recruited at the same Jack LB position. Both can't get the playing time they want unless one moves.Hubbard could end up at end or Hill at another LB spot.

Thanks for all that. I would think it'd make more since for Hubbard to play end because of his height.

I hate to say it, but Mike Davis was extremely impressive. He was by far the best WR in the game. He reminds me of a Reggie Wayne type of guy who is just a baller. Guy may not have the best 40 time, but is explosive off the line and runs great routes.
Evan Washington showed a ton of improvement from a few months ago. I thought he was terrible on ESPNU earlier this year, but it's obvious that it was just coaching that he lacked. I don't think he's a great prospect, but he is worthy of his ranking on Rivals and ESPN.

Bryant i agree that is the most likely scenario,i'm just going on the position he was recruited at.An Alabama guy that I talk to that is in the know thinks he will be the star Jack that you guys are looking for.It depends on whether he can add the weight and strength to play 3-4 end.Hill is athletic enough to move around at linebacker.Strength is is weakness right now.

I agree about Davis.I love that he is extremely confident.Hopefully it isn't overconfidence that turns him to a diva.I think it is highly possible though. He just has that kind of attitude i think.JMO based on his interviews at the game.

Da'Rick Rogers--I came away puzzled with this guy. He had more balls thrown his way than just about any player to ever play in an all-star game. Yet, he dropped the ball a ton and didn't capitalize on his opportunities. He has a great frame and tremendous abilities, but he performed poorly in the game. I expected much more. I still think he is an elite talent, however.
I wonder if BS still has a raging hardon for Rogers. After he watched Rogers practice he said he was by far the best WR in this class. Perhaps he is; maybe he just had a bad game.

Michael Taylor--He is bigger than I expected. Played a great game and ended up winning an MVP. I wish we could have landed him.
Completely agree. He is one guy I really wanted in this class and he will be a beast for UT. He is ridiculously underrated.
I think you are spot on; can't disagree with any evaluation.

Da'Rick Rogers looked good in practice all week because he was going against the white team dbs. Once he lined up against the black team dbs, who showed that they're much better during the game, he had a lot of trouble. Adrian White was right there in his face for several of his drops.

One thing to remember about Joyner is that his evaluation as a CB is all on potential. When i watched him in he STA vs Byrnes game he was the fastest guy on the field by a street in aagme with probably 25+ D1 players in total.
You also have to remember he hasn't played CB before in his life, in high school he plays WR,KR and FS. The scouts are just projecting him at CB so alot of the stuff will be newish to him.

What did you guys think of Jeff Luc? Everyone drooled over a couple of big hits that were teed up for him, but I wasn't all that impressed. Looks stiff to me, not changing direction well. I expected more considering the hype.
Call me crazy, but I'm not sure that Michael Taylor doesn't make a better LB longterm. Taylor reminds me of a Jerod Mayo type.
