Why would he sign a new deal and immediately try to enter the portal?

I'm going to make some educated guesses here
-Dermond has been a name since LK was hired
-We thought Chambliss was in, DW signs deal to stay. UGA fricks up the timeline, Chambliss stays, we move down our board
-Sorsby chooses TT, we move onto Sam
-Leavitt comes in all the while we've been doing our due diligence on DW's deal
-Leavitt wants to continue to play the field, LK fires the text to begin order 66

No this year but maybe Washington and the Big1G are playing the long game and making this the test case for binding contract between programs and players. It would end some of the madness to some extent. Also remember, the Big1G's lawyers drew up the template for each programs rev share contract with the idea of making it binding.

I certainly hope he comes to LSU but I think the Huskies hold the cards in this chess match. He may not be happy but he's not going to be willing to sit out a year.

Let's let our friend CHATGPT opine on if Washington can refuse to put his name in the portal.

quote:

NCAA Rule (Division I – most relevant)
?? Mandatory Entry

Once a student-athlete submits written notification of their intent to transfer to the school’s compliance office:

The institution must enter the athlete into the NCAA Transfer Portal

Deadline: within 2 business days

The school has no discretion to deny, delay, or block the request.

This is an NCAA bylaw requirement, not a conference or school policy.

What a School Cannot Do

A school may not:

Deny the request because the coach disagrees

Delay entry to pressure the athlete

Require a meeting with a coach as a condition

Refuse due to roster needs, depth chart concerns, or timing

Condition portal entry on repayment of aid, equipment, or NIL issues

Any of the above would be a bylaw violation.

This could be an interesting case. Is it truly a contract? And is there a notice period in the contract such as one year, and are there any terms that the player agreed to which commits him to be enrolled at WU and on the team for a certain period. Is pay to play involved in the language?

LSU doesn't need Ryan Clark for anything. He can stay as far away from LSU as possible.

They have to make this as painful as possible as to deter future contract issues. They are sending a message, and I get it.

This all makes me want to fire off a tweet about the ineptitude of UW and them doubling down on retarditude, but then again, I know UW is only fricking themselves in the arse with a rusty railroad iron, so why beat a dead husky.

This whole NIL/Portal crap makes me dizzy......

There is no more "college" football. Players paid to wear your school's uniform on Saturdays, that's all! Disgusting money grab.....

Except Wisconsin tried this last year and found out it doesn’t work.

Maybe they are willing to force him to juco route in order to play for Pennies, they enter the draft after next season, to me, the kid should be able to play wherever he wants
Especially if he’s making a million plus more a season at another school
A good lawyer will get this resolved for the kid, hopefully

If he already signed a contract and got a better offer afterwards and is now trying to get out of it, I don't blame Washington for trying to frick him. I would do

And if it were a potential LSU starter, we would all be calling for the same thing

However, if he requests his name be put in the transfer portal, I think they may be required to do so. I am uncertain that a signed contract would negate this requirement to enter a player's name in the portal.

The venue for remediation of a broken contract is the civil courts or arbitration. If they paid him, they will probably be able to recoup that money, but what other real damage have they suffered? A starting QB? Is there a clause in the contract specifically addressing whether he chooses not to play this year? year?

He can just withdraw from Washington and enroll at LSU and play for LSU. UW could sue but it would be for monetary purposes not eligibility purposes. The NCAA won’t get involved so there would be no backlash from them on LSU’s end.

Now, how they work his NIL deal is what’s tricky it seems due to the UW contract. But LSU has lawyers to work that out to.

True, but according to Nakos Washington was going to make him one of the highest paid QBs in college football. I can't imagine LSU would be paying that much more for him, but who the hell knows anymore. Then again, even if it's say $100k more (just for convo purposes), it's still a lot of money and on top of that he gets to play at LSU with much more talent and a lot more eyes on his game.

I’m not saying it will work. Only that they probably feel like they need to make it feel quite unpleasant to deter the same thing happening in the future.
