No shite. However the TAF etc. could set the tone and donate more back to the school and pay for 2-3 profressors salaries with that same amount of money that pays for Les' contract.

If people wanted to donate to the education side is Lsu they wouldn't donate to TAF.

Holy shite, He was getting a raise no matter what. You people live under a rock?

Evidently, I have been. Never knew that he was guaranteed a raise after this year.

Do I agree with his raise? No. Absolutely not. The school is in a budget crisis and it continues to set a tone that LSU cares more about football than its true mission-education

Everyone already touched on athletics giving money back to the school.

So let me add that currently LSU football's graduation rate is 2nd in the SEC behind Vandy. Sounds like they take education pretty seriously.

And why should they when LSU continually says that they care more about athletics than sports. The university sets the tone.

Anyways. The point of this thread was not to start a political thread. It was to illustrate that $4million is what the market says Les is worth. Hes getting paid at Kirk Ferentz level for crying out loud.

Sure they could, Adam. Then the football program would perform worse, bringing in less top line revenue, resulting in lower bottom line performance then was the case before your deal. So the athletic program, in financial trouble because Adam hired a cheap, shitty coach, would have no surplus to give to the education budget, requiring us to cut the three Adam Banks professors plus a dozen more. Thanks, Adam. Your prize for this brilliant plan: you get to be the education czar in the Obama administration where social justice is valued above success.

So get a cheaper coach, gamble on a cheaper coach I should say, and if/when lsu football isn't generating this kind of money they will get even less donations.

aTm is one injury away from mediocrity. Johnny Football is the only reason they are relevant. Remember Ole Miss with Eli Manning. Remember Ole Miss without Eli Manning. The big difference: aTm is just playing Johnny Football, Eli (for some reason known only to Cutcliff) sat behind Romero F'ing Miller at Ole Miss.
Cam Newton at Auburn: Great. Now Coaching Search. aTm is a one car parade.

The university and state by their actions only pay for excellence in one area: athletics. We wont pay to keep our buisness school dean from leaving for Arkansas but we will pay an athletics coach over 4 million to not leave.

nc-chapel hill- wanted to go the cheap way in basketball - several years ago - this is their big money sport. they lost revenue and had to go get their guy back from kansas to keep the money flowing. athletics is not the problem @ LSU
you step up to pay a professor in one department - above the norm & you will have to fine money to pay 10 others
TOPS is the problem in higher education in louisana

Again, our athletics department does NOT look bad for not bailing out the university/state government. And you could have picked way better examples than the business college dean... Like Mike Martin or Eric Monday who are both higher profile and left for other universities

Just picked him out because of the going to Arkansas connection.

Its not just "bailing out the government" its setting priorities. How can you expect private donors to take the education side more seriously than football when the school doesnt. (Im sorry LSU athletics no matter how separate the finances are is still and always will be perceived as being part of the school)

The school rewards and protects its star on the athletics side but continually lets educational leaders walk for more money. TAF has no problem hitting up private donors to pay for new windows but they cant string a couple big shots to keep deans and professors.

I don't know how well you knew the former dean, but that move was about more than money, bro.

I'd say we're a top 5 program. Les' pay should be top 5 as well.

I suggest you learn what the "A" in TAF stands for.

Oh, and by the way, LSU has an endowments of about a HALF BILLION DOLLARS

People will donate their money where they want to.

You say they should use his raise to save professors. How many professor's salaries have already been paid by the donations from the athletic budget? You don't read about that in the paper, do you?

LSU Athletics speaks loud and clear on it's priorities by giving $7.2 MILLION per year to the school for the next 5 years. It's not their job to make sure deans stay, nor is it their job to pay salaries. I get where you are trying to come from, but the issues of the academic side have nothing to do with the athletics side and everything to do with poor management of funds for the university at the state level.

Wow a whole half a billion!

Those "dumb arse" aggies that everyone makes fun of? Their endowment is 7 billion.

And I'll bet their fans aren't bitching about overpaying the football coach.
