I think the B1G is right about auto bids but not the number. You can keep 12 and just give 4 autos to the SEC and Big Ten and then play 10+ conference games.
Most years you wont be able to tell which conference is better so the SEC only getting 3 last year and the B1G only getting 3 this year is dumb when we know these are by far the best teams in the country.
There are only 3-4 teams outside these conferences that could compete.

Calls for adding more teams is not the answer. This isn’t baseball or basketball. Need to add less teams, top teams, not any auto qualifiers from minor leagues.

The only reason they wouldn't go 16 is they would have to cut commercial time down to shorten games to get 8 prime time games in one weekend.

Big 10 and SEC need to go to 20-24 teams each.
Then split off and have an 8 team playoff. The top 4 in each conference have a playoff to determine the conference champ with the two conference champs in the title game.

12 teams will still work, we just need common sense and to stop pandering.
Hell, college football already has all the other divisions with their own playoff: FCS, Div II, Div III.

Agree, 12 teams is already too many for football and talk of expanding is a big mistake. You just can’t drag a football team into multiple weeks of additional games after a 12-13 game season. Just not the same as baseball and basketball.
