It’s easy to cast judgement on someone but you never really know what people are going through behind closed doors. He is an 18/19 year old kid, a long way from home and isolated socially because of COVID. Hope he comes back next year, we need him. He was the centerpiece of this signing class.

This is what drove me nuts about this whole process. The anti quarantine crowd kept warning people about the mental health dangers of this, which a lot of us agreed was problematic, but then we have a front row seat of that with a young kid and all most of us can do is call him a quitter and a pussy.

If he's truly struggling mentally then that would be a reason to opt out. There's no information out there saying that is the case, but if so, makes sense. Depression/severe anxiety are brutal and all too common in 18 year olds going away from home for the first time, much less an 18 year old with enormous pressure to live up to the greatest of all time moniker placed on him by so many.

I’m fine with him returning but, he needs to man up and apologize to his teammates in a very public way. What he did was gutless. If he had racial issues with the coaches then he needs to take his shite somewhere else because that is toxic to any organization.

Let me help Ed out when he's asked about Arik Gilbert . . .
"Great talent. Looks great in P&G. Hope he comes back and gets to experience TS in its raucous glory.
And shout out to Cole Taylor. He stepped up. Just shows how hard he's worked all season. Kept his focus. So proud of him and his shoe."

I’m usually the he’s a quitter guy and he let his team down. This guy truly is special and these times are very different. We need to support him because he is still a Tiger. We need him and he needs LSU. Not everyone is the same. What motivates some is a turn-off to others. Let’s support Arik and hopefully the young man gets healthy and comes back better than ever!

Not sure why anyone would downvote this, being as kids even commit suicide over this issue...

What a complete dumpster fire of a post.
Clearly, you know nothing about racial issues, mental health, team sports, or the pressures of being a young high profile athlete. ALL WHILE IN THE MIDST OF A PANDEMIC!
I love when grown adults call kids soft and then go cry about it on the internet. Look in the mirror and you’ll see the real puss

Sometimes people smoke synthetic because some cocksucker messed with them. Happened to me at Mardi Gras several years ago and it wasn't fun either. I was freaking out for a couple hours

I always try to give these kids the benefit of the doubt. I’m an old fart...but I still remember being a very young adult. And times were wayyyy simpler when I was young.
We’re behind you Arik...you’re gonna have a great future!

Arik will be fine.... when you have support and he has it from LSU.

To be fair to Arik, I can't imagine moving to a new state for college and having a global pandemic take away every bit of social life. Add in the pressure of being hyped as the best college TE prospect ever and I can see how it will weigh on your mental health.

Your generation are the biggest bunch of pussies I’ve ever seen in my life.

That would be why I said “if true”

The opt out is frustrating, but that kid is so damn talented that I hope he comes back.
