re: Baseball Transfer Portal

Jay is very confident and Cade Arrambide. They might elect to take a catcher in the transfer portal or they might be fine with the freshman they have coming in. We have Serna and Hodge. I would expect Hodge to make it to campus but probably not Serna. But from what I hear Jay is happy with the freshmen coming in and Cade behind the plate for next season.
We also have a lot of Freshmen infielders he might take 1 in the portal but again Jay loves the team he has on his roster and the recruiting class I would be shocked unless someone like Cholowski goes into the portal. (Cholowski is not going into the portal it was just an example to show an elite no miss player such as Tommy White like he did in '23)

What is the reasoning behind expecting Hodge but not Serna?

I do not know the kid I am just going off the research I have done on the players. Serna has a very strong arm and raw power and filled out his 6'2 frame.
Hodge is quite lanky very good pop time and twitchy but not nearly as strong of an arm.
They are both toss ups for the draft depending on how it falls but with 2 Catchers committed history tells us the odds are we get 1 to campus and the 1 more likely to get to campus is Hodge.

If you're referring to current freshman infielders on this year's team, they're all in the portal except for Baby Pearson

I agree that I don’t think Cholowski is going into the portal. During ESPN’s promotional campaign for Cholowski during our game with UCLA, I believe they said his dad works in the front office for the Dodgers. Grew up in LA and UCLA fan. But these days, who knows.

His dad is a scout for them.
I'm just hoping that means he's met and is friends with Brady Ebel (his dad is the 3rd base coach for the Dodgers), and convinced him that college is awesome.

Incoming Freshman. Sorry I should have specified recruits.

Very logical. I was just curious if it was your own opinion off research and history as you stated or if you had a deeper connection with either kid.
Seems like Serna is very Jared Jones like out of high school as far as at the plate but has a better chance of sticking behind the plate defensively. Hodge doesn't have the pop but is a LH bat at catcher which is valuable to teams.
Will be interesting with both. Can be playing time at 1B for someone at the Catcher position if the bat plays as a freshman.

So after we beat Coastal this weekend will Jay drop a bag off to Flukey or Morrison to come on down for a visit?
They can tour the stadium during the trophy presentation

Is there a possibility that Jay could have some unannounced commitments, not wanting to announce anything while in Omaha so it won’t be a distraction? I can’t remember if we announced any while in Omaha in 2023. I think I remember we had some portal players come to Omaha to watch.

I've heard it's the reality, not just a possibility. And for the reasons you stated.

No but that is the most important position in question.
Right he's not playing there or anywhere in the infield next year probably. Although i did have a poster say he would be the starting 3B this year after the dust settled after the non conference games. This same poster also said our pitching wasn't as good as advertised. Can you believe that? LSU is about to have 2 pitchers drafted in the 1st round this year. I mean where do these goofballs come from lol

I've stopped trying to predict what freshman will produce every off season. its a coin flip basically.
you can guess who will have an opportunity based on holes in the roster but its hard to determine which pitcher out of a group will contribute as a freshman. perfect example is Schmidt and evans
Schmidt was the one everyone was the most excited about

Agreed. That is what makes getting the right pieces out the portal so important.

Are there any truly elite players in the portal right now?
