I love LSU basketball, and i think Efton Reid is going to be a difference maker for this team before he leaves.
It's ok to be honest and critical, while still believing in the guy. You don't get better by being told everything is awesome all of the time.

IMO he has lots of great tools to work with but he needs to assert himself more. Reid needs to play more aggressive instead of passive.

I agree with T-Bird. Reid needs to stop committing stupid fouls. Half of his fouls occur 75 or more feet from the basket.
Last night he dove on a guy in an attempt to get a jump ball. Ref was right there and called a foul. Before that he had a guy trapped with Eason and all he had to do was stand his ground but he started getting in the guys space and got called for that in the cylinder foul. And both of these fouls were easy calls by the ref. And it makes you wonder what’s going through his mind during these fouls. He’s like a large child that can’t control his body.
He needs to just play smarter defensively and develop a common sense awareness of what he’s doing. I know he’s a freshman but his defensive basketball IQ is suffering.
Offensively he needs to use the hook more over these bigger defenders. He’s not a big leaper for his size and he gets shots blocked when he’s going straight at any defender as big as he is. His footwork needs to improve. He’s got moves but they’re too slow.

Honestly I think he plays too timid. It seems counterintuitive, but being aggressive is more than just taking shots. Being aggressive is exerting the maximum effort to achieve a desired affect. When you play timid you play slow, you end up getting late to the right positions. There is a difference between being aggressive and undisciplined.
He should only be limited by his physical attributes, but I don’t think that is the case.

The guy started playing in 8th grade and grew after that. He is a project. give him an offseason in the weight room and maybe the confidence to be more aggressive. He can improve his footwork but he is good for 2 stupid fouls a game. Needs to play smarter and be more aggressive. Willing to give him a couple of years to mature. He's worth that.

He needs to split time with Shareef.

He needs to adjust to the speed of the college game.. his lateral movement and getting the basketball off the ground into the hoop is too slow..he needs to learn to move faster with the ball and body up better but he needs a few more pounds on him also.. he’s gaining valuable experience this season and will become a better player next season..

Strength, better foot work, finish around the rim, one go to move to score.

Huh. Must have struck a chord with the Junior High coach bit.
Here's a suggestion. Maybe don't post each day till you've had the chance to slap around a family member or pet first.
Your critique went over the line on an 18 yr old. Particularly since it's obvious that your opinions on anything - not just LSU hoops - don't add up to a hill of dry shite in a steady wind.

It's ok to be honest and critical, while still believing in the guy.
And, I'll have you know my Vagina is not "Big". It is very tiny, magnificent, and the envy of millions... Quite unlike yours which I'm sure has been stuck more times than Granny's favorite pin cushion.

Quit reaching in for the ball after the opposition rebounds the ball on defense first of all. I've seen him get several fouls just doing that. He'll start running back on defense and as he passes their guard he'll try to reach in and knock the ball away.
Second, when they trap an opposing big man down low, stay close with your hands high, but don't lean into him with your body getting into his space and start reaching in for the ball. I've seen him do that several times as well. When you're defending under the basket, stand your ground, get in a set defensive position, and keep your hands up straight. Quit bringing your arms down at an angle to try to block the shots.
Most of his fouls have been him reaching in when he shouldn't, or bringing his arms down at an angle while trying to block the shot.
He needs to learn to settle down and quit trying to reach in for a steal when it's not needed. It's not like he's going to get many steals anyway. Just get back on D. He'll always get 2 or 3 fouls, bigs always do. He just needs to quit getting the dumb reach in fouls early that are taking him over the 5 foul limit.

I think physically he needs to add muscle, he is being overtaken by other bigs and his positioning when defending is showing just how soft he plays. Experience will help in his defensive technique, but he physically needs to get stronger.

Focus on rebounding as your defensive strength. Emulate Scotty Pippin sort of mentality. If effective, it can be very effective against an opponent’s big man. They just can’t live with being out rebounded and it throws off their psyche.

he should be grinding agility drills on a consistent basis, he lacks mobility, common theme for many young guys that are extremely tall because the growth happens so fast that their muscles lag behind in the necessary ability to stabilize the high center of mass
Reid shows his potential, he just needs work
