You people can act like LSU wasn't very fortunate to get in and that Mainier's pending retirement didn't play a role in the decision all you want. It's moot now and I really don't care.
They're one win away from an amazing run out of the losers bracket.
You said they were the last 5 in and he's pointing out that they weren't.
Of course we were fortunate to get in but we had a better resume then UGA and Bama.
It all doesn't matter though cause were about to be heading to the supers in Knoxville.

So I was wrong on the details.

But no the overall point.
Got it.

It might be historic in terms of how many times it's been done, but if LSU wins, it shouldn't be shocking.
If you look at this team, the only reason we're not a national team is- we lack a true #1 ace. We lost the opening game of an SEC series 5 times. You get a guy who wins, say, 4 of those 5, we win 17 SEC games, have 40+ wins, probably host a regional (and likely a super). Such an ace would have matched the Gonzaga guy head-up, if we'd have faced someone like that.
You drop down below the #1 pitcher, and we have everything else needed.
In short, this isn't a "bad" team by any stretch, and definitely not an easy out for anyone's midweek pitcher. We're better than most teams, once you get past their top 2 pitchers.

In the history of the 64 team double elimination regional?
That can’t be right. Surely it’s more than that
It’s got to be more than that. I can think of 3 off the top of my head.
FSU 2008
ULL 2014
Mississippi St 2017

A lot harder to come back on the road
LSU hasn't had many road regionals to begin with
Plus the four team regional makes it a little easier to come back and do it
I think they are fortunate that Oregon and Gonzaga pitching dropped off significantly after their first two starters
In the old regionals LSU lost 2nd game and came back and had to beat A&M twice in 1989

If you delete the top 2 pitchers on every roster (including ours), I honestly think LSU would become a national seed. The further you get into a regional, the harder it gets to beat us (and similar programs). You match up our midweek guys against theirs, and let the lineups battle it out, we're going to come out ahead most of the time.

I think so. Epic, at least.

it happens a little more than once a year but most of the time it's 1 and 2 seeds that battle back like that

I can assure you this game will not solve world hunger or a cure for cancer! This is baseball! Hit, score runs!

If 5 teams have done it, that’s not making history. Just making it into the tournament and doing it doesn’t make it history, either.
It would be the first time LSU has done it so it would be an historic achievement for the school. But it’s not an NCAA regional historic achievement.

everything that happens is historic in some way or another.

It took that run to finish in a tie for 8th with UGA in the conference standings. They didn't make the tournament. Its what gave LSU the edge in RPI over UGA.
It may bother some of you, but LSU made the tournament by the skin of their teeth. This was readily admitted after losing to the dawgs in the tourney.
You're trying to hard to justify your "lucky" statement.

I believe Fresno State entered the tournament a 4 seed and won the national championship.

Yep. UGA thought they had a natty in the bag (much like football) and then Frenso took it to them

I don’t need to. There’s plenty of evidence to back it up, hence the articles I posted.
I’m simply explaining why it’s not some absurd sentiment.

I was pretty sure I heard the analysts from last night say the same thing:
Only 5 teams have lost GAME 1 and come back to win the Regional.
Yes, it would be pretty historic. We've had to win 3 games in a row with our backs against the wall just to get to this one.
Yes this is difficult to do. Extremely. Tonight is our 5th game, in 4 days.
Whomever is in this spot burns through a ton of pitching. Eventually, it catches up to ya. That's the biggest reason is so damn difficult to do.
The other reason - you've gotta win 4 in a row against good teams.
That's what they said.
But they also said that a non-host team had only done it twice.

That's absolutely not the definition of "making history" what you described.
Doing something that has very rarely occurred is certainly "making history".

Completely and utterly false.

This is one reason. The other being this team was lucky to even make the tournament.
LSU's home run stats this year, the competition LSU played along with quite a few games lost by 1 run put LSU clearly in the top 64 by a good margin.
This team is a very good team and has made it to the top 32.
1 more win tonight and LSU makes it to the sweet 16 and deserving for sure.
