Been here the whole time, wish it didnt happen but pitchers will struggle and when they do, you can find them at various baseball facilities around town at night trying to fix their problems because no one on campus has any idea. this has been going on since Grewe has been here.

Of course Alsup hasn't regressed because he was so horrible early on in his career that the only way he could go was up. He is still the least reliable arm in the weekend starting rotation even though he is the senior. Ott obviously has issues. 3 pitchers from last years staff have undergone tommy john surgery. Maybe Grewe doesn't know enough about pitchers mechanics to be an effective pitching coach. Should McCune or Gausman go down I am sure it will hit the fan for this team.

Just wanted to point out Grewe still sucks

With what baseball knowledge I possess...as limited as it may be...I believe scoring in 3 of the last 36 innings is the problem with this team. We've had some guys carry shutouts into the eighth inning...and wind up with a loss or a ND. Sad.

The pitchers need some support from the hitters, IMO. Might even lift morale to the point they pitch better.

Relievers are killing us as well, though.

Ben Alsup
2009 - 29.1 IP, 6.14 ERA, 24k
2010 - 48.2 IP, 3.88 ERA, 33k
2011 - 41.1 IP, 3.27 ERA, 27k
Daniel Bradshaw
Has Regressed a lot
Matty Ott
2009 - 50.1 IP, 2.68 ERA, 69k, 16 SVs, 4 Wins, 2 Losses
2010 - 42.1 IP, 6.38 ERA, 40k, 11 SVs, 2 Wins, 4 Losses
2011 - 17.1 IP, 3.63 ERA, 18k, 4 SVs, 2 Losses
Paul Bertuccini
2009 - 25.2 IP, 3.86 ERA, 31k
2010 - 31.2 IP, 2.56 ERA, 31k
Anthony Ranaudo
Regressed
Austin Ross
Stayed about the same
My point is that yes there have been some pitchers who have regressed under Grewe's watch, but there also have been some pitchers that have gotten better. Hell Louis Coleman was stellar as a starter under Grewe, and he had mostly been a bullpen pitcher until 2009. Grewe may not be the best pitching coach EVER, but he isn't as bad as some think.

I 100% agree with this but this

makes me question Grewe. I think that he is good coach, I'm just not sure if he belongs as a pitching coach. It does seem like a few pitchers have regressed under him (Ott, Bradshaw, and don't forget Ranaudo) and I don't agree with some pitch calls either.
I don't think it is completely him, but it is a concern in my mind...

We are getting worse at the pitching position! Is it just me?
Pls discuss
I think it says a lot about a poster's knowledge when he's complaining about pitching at a time like this.
It's not the pitching.

Hell I'm sure it would more then hit the fan if we lost one of them.

You obviously haven't been watching this team.
The pitching's not the problem.

Its a good thing we are football fans because we can't compere in the sec in any other sport.

why should he get much credit for McCune or Gausman?
This, he didn't do anything to improve the freshman. They're just talented. It's time for Grewe and Sanchez to walk.

Naw...wait till the fall. We won't be able to compete in the SEC either. JJ will fail, Mett with touch another girl, and we will be kicked out of the SEC.

Well according to someone on the recruiting board, grewe pantsed a recruit for taking the MLB money.

Berry?
He is good but who the hell called the slider right after he hung one up the pitch prior?
Sorry but that was bad coaching to tell someone to throw a pitch in the clutch when Berry obviously did not have it that night.

McCune? Alsup? Gausman?
I will give you McCune and Gausman but Alsup is still a 50/50 pitcher. He has some control issues.

Would Grewe look that bad if we could hit with RISP ? Our ERA isn't that bad overall so, is the problem Grewe or Sanchez ?
Posted on 4/13/11 at 10:08 am to josh336
I think its fair to say Grewe is a huge step down from rooney.
