If she was intoxicated and trying to leave with my child in a vehicle, I probably wouldn't be worried about my future in the heat of that moment and I'd do what I had to in order to protect my child.
It's all speculation at this point, but there are reasonably possible circumstances where his actions could have been justified.

As a father going thru currently with a crazy baby mama, I feel his pain. I called my baby mama 2x on a Thursday afternoon to get my daughter for the weekend, she went to the court house and filed harassment charges on me, for calling on a weekend that was my visitation weekend. Stay strong Davon and don't judge until all the facts are out.

Good thing he didn't have kids with Casey Anthony. There are times to "lay your hands on women." Situations like this are never black and white. For all we know she came in under the influence of a multiple drugs and tried to take their kid into a dangerous situation. You can't just stop someone who is on drugs with words.
Of course, it would help if so many people would stop calling police over something they should just work out with each other. Seems this happens to a lot of famous people. It's crazy how many football players have their gf's call the cops on them...
