I accessed the story about Zach Lee in the L.A. Times and the story ended with this sentence.
"And that, more than any secret conspiracy, is why Zach Lee is likely to be throwing passes for LSU rather than fastballs for the Dodgers".
I hate the LA Times but I hope they are correct.

Screw it, he's gone, we suck and this is the last QB we will ever sign.

Most people have a working career of about 40 years. That is basically like living off of 50k per year for that time and being broke at age 65. About 16% of US workers have an income of 100k or more per year. Statistically speaking, about 400 people on the board right now (16% of 2500)would make 2 to 4 times that in their working career. Of those 37 would make 5 or more times that in their career. These are just income figures for career people making in the 100k-250k range. These are upper/middle management jobs and high end medical/tech sales/marketing. Not talking about CEO types...
Actually being 18 years old and knowing no matter what you'll never have to worry about money would be pretty great. 2 million dollars is alot of money and more than most make in their working careers.

friend of mine at Sammy's on Highland told me today that Tommy Lasorda personally called PM with news of Dodgers $3M+ offer to ZLee and that he was taking it.......just sayin I heard it, but great source.

If they are offering, my guess is that he will take it. I don't necessarily blame him.

If Lee is gone, that sucks, but I can't blame him. But I'm surprised someone hasn't sued the NCAA over the right to have an agent. That's like saying you can't hire a lawyer. I know there's a problem with agents providing compensation early on in anticipation of future profits, but there's got to be a better way of dealing with the issue.

Maybe, but Zach Lee could have a failed baseball career, go back to school and play D1 football and either play in the NFL or start a career....all by the age of 30.
If the number is $3MM, you take it...period. That's a nice chunk of change to still have ALL these options on the table when it is said and done.

That's real nice and all but he's still going to have almost 2 million in the bank after taxes and still have a promising baseball career in his future where he may make millions and millions more. If not he can always go to school and get a real job that pays an average 50 -60 grand a year. Life would be pretty easy working a 50 grand a year job knowing that you also have a million dollars in the bank and your house paid off.

Bingo. It's not like $3MM is all he is getting in this deal or all he will get in the future. It is a no brainer. I know all of the dweebs who dreamed they could have played for LSU would have turned down $10 million to wear the purple and gold, but I am guessing Z. Lee is a little smarter than that.

no reason to be mad at all for zach about this situation. we should have planned ahead better for this. that means not letting garrett go or taking an additional qb this past class.

Yep. He was picked in the first round. Signing is generally what happens when you are drafted this high.
Everyone should have learned their lesson last year with the draft and what goes down after two guys assured coach Manerie(sp) that they were LSU all the way and signed at the last minute.

Still dont understand why everyone thinks there will be a meltdown. LSU knew that this could happen when its coaching staff signed Z Lee. There was always a chance he could leave. If they didnt want to take that chance, they should have never offered him a scholarship. That said, I do hope he stays.

I not buying that the Dodgers will even remotely come close to offering Lee close to 3 million...top 10 picks are only getting 2 mil...players drafted in the middle or late 1st rd are signing for mid to low 1 million range!! I know he's good but no way he's good enough to have 3 mil thrown at him as a late 1st rounder??? He would been drafted top 5 at least if MLB scouts thought he was worth 3 mil...no way that figure is accurate....now 2 mil may be believable and I'm sure that will make him at least think about....I'm sure it's a lot tougher when someone actually says "hey, here's 2 million dollars to throw a baseball"....but NO WAY he get offered 3 mil

So if Lee leaves what are the chances Porter wants his scholly back?
Posted on 8/15/10 at 8:47 pm to RBWilliams8
I think what sucks most about this is that it seems like the Dodgers are just giving Lee the money to sign him and save face. Sucks to lose a potential future great LSU QB to that sort of situation. If Lee is happy though, good for him.

What sucks about it is LSU is down to two scholarship QB's if Z. Lee takes the money and runs. Good for him, awful situation for LSU.

Tell me that last good QB who actually won us games and not cost us

The third QB is generally overrated. If you get down to your third QB for one reason or another, your season is likely screwed regardless. Who will we start in 2012 should be a much bigger concern.
