Little unfair to make this comparison. This decision isn't simply Gore or Porter.
Once Gore made the grades, the comparison is Porter vs everyone else in that class. I'm not saying that the staff made the wrong choice, just that the decision is more complicated than Gore or Porter

Word is that it didn't become part of the convo for Porter until Monday.

well yea we don't know the staff's criteria. They could have just approached the guys they felt would be willing to accept the grayshirt or would be in their best interest to do so

Question: If CLM has indeed given Porter an unconditional release...does that mean he can sign with anyone and play immediately?
I'm thinking that's the case, but not sure.

im pretty sure it has to be. I dont really think our staff is that bad

i don't really care. I can see the reasoning behind it. I blame the NCAA more on delaying Gore's decision so much. The staff was hamstrung on what they could do. That's why it seems so bad.
Shaw is a good program and has been good to us in the past, so hopefully this doesn't cause any problems. I dont think it will, but who knows how Porter spins it

how can u sign a kid not expecting him to qualify
How do you bet on "Red" or "17"? How do you call a hand in poker? How can you invest in a stock and not "know" it will make money?

"We talked a lot about a lot of things and it wasn't only football," Porter said. "We talked about a lot of life situations and I could ask coach about a lot of things. He's a real good person other than just a coach. I'm going to miss him. I'm going to miss him a lot but it's not going to affect my recruiting. I love LSU because I love LSU. It's not just one person."

Apparently, the feeling is not mutual.

I am rarely negative about the lsu program, but this move doesnt look like a "family" type of move...
I wonder if miles told the recruits at the Family Day Picnic that he will accept their commitment, but lsu may not be committed to them...

whether he stays or goes, the situation still sucks

Why didn't you mention this on signing day? What's your family solution?

Im thinking Porter must not have the grades to get TOPS, if he did being a walk-on for a year might not be the worse thing.
Or maybe he is worried about limited spots in a really talented class since we would technically be giving him a scholly from this year.

You cannot be recruited and get a scholarhip of any kind and be a member of the football team. How hard is that for some of you to understand. Getting TOPS would make him count against the 25/year rule.
If it is a 25-rule thing, I don't even know if Fordham can pay his own way to play this year and not count since he was "Recruited" and signed a LOI. Walk-ons don't do that.
Rules were put in place to prevent things like this from being used by certain schools to gain unfair advantages <cough, BAMA, cough>.

Difficult since I've never bothered to learn the NCAA rule book. So thanks for the lesson now go wash the sand out of your vagina and stop acting like a whiny bitch.

Well, okay, I feel better now. Are you saying we are deep at interior line? And don't even say that Cam Fordham is sniffing mop up this year, unless he's playing Tight End.
BTW I'm not letting you do my taxes this year either.
Evan Washington may have to move inside, or Greg Shaw. sO tell me how that equates to depth.

Are you trying to argue that no walk-on at LSU receives any type of academic or other schollie. You may want to re-visit your NCAA rulebook.
You are correct that a walk-on with a schollie would count against the 85 if he ever played.
