I remember when the Student Section chanted "Go Home Yankees" when we played Northern teams. Now, we celebrate Sherman's terroristic actions? What has this board come to?

Ah I see now. I thought he was criticizing Sherman for taking a stand against the Confederacy. I’ve seen so much crazy shite on here, my brain is wired to assume the worst.

The problem is that he did follow the mob. The "civil" war was never about slavery. That was Abraham Lincoln's version of what we see the media do today. It was just a side narrative to gain support. He simply wanted to prevent the confederate states from seceding, which they had every right to do. The fact that Lincoln forced a war over secession, makes him a tyrant.
His whole political history showed that he was for slavery, and his mentor, Henry Clay, was a Kentucky Senator and slave owner. It wasn't until the British were preparing to come to the aide of the confederates that Lincoln decided to pull out the slavery card. At that point, the British didn't want to get involved in the politics of the war, and backed out.
What Sherman did was nothing courageous. The confederates weren't "rebelling", they were fighting for independence from a Union that was failing them. Keep in mind that only about 2% of the people owned slaves in the south. The issue was not about slavery for them, because, again, this issue was not raised by Lincoln, himself, until it became convenient for him to do so. It's good that slavery ended, but the idea that it was the reason for the war is a revisionist myth. People in the north owned slaves, for goodness sake. It's amazing how little anyone is taught about this nation's actual history.

Lincoln even issued his politicized Emancipation Proclamation, which did not free all slaves in the United States. Rather, it declared free only those slaves living in states NOT under Union control (save a few areas in the South under Union control at the time, notably New Orleans).
William Seward, Lincoln's secretary of state, mocked Lincoln for this, "We show our sympathy with slavery by emancipating slaves where we cannot reach them and holding them in bondage where we can set them free." Lincoln was fully aware of the irony, but he did not want to antagonize the slave states loyal to the Union by setting their slaves free. Lincoln also initially opposed the 14th amendment.
