A few black coaches does not negate the fact that racism still exist in college basketball. Although there has been some progres it is still abundately clear that there is quite more work needs to be done when you look at the high numbers of African Americans competing in football and basketball. White coaches will typically hire black assistant coaches whom can go into the African American community to pull out the great black talent. This is done at almost every Division power in both sports. The fact that a 34 year old ex-manager would be given an opportunity to be in a position to coach at a division one school is simply foolish. To impute that racism is dismantle from college sports is far worse.

maybe if more of them were hired, the list would be longer
Then maybe some of them need to be better at their jobs.
When is this race baiting hack going to get banned? He shits up every basketball thread with this race bullshite.

If you are truly looking for a more diverse coaching community the biggest culprits are small schools. A school like LSU is in the market for an established head coach. We aren't the type of school to hire an assistant to be our head coach, while that is more the job of the mid major programs to pull up-in-coming assistants.

That is complete bullshite. Sports is 100 percent success driven. If you can win, you can be a head coach.
The ratio of black players to black coaches is irrelevant. What about the race of the student body? Alumni? City? State?
Any of those could be a factor, but they aren't. Winning is the only factor.
LSU just had a basketball staff with 3 out of 4 coaches being black. They didn't win, now they are fired.

This is an accurate statement and one that is often overlooked when people call for more diversity in Division 1 head coaching.

I just don't understand how you can bash LSU for hiring a white guy if you understand the issue. It isn't with LSU. They have proven they are willing to hire a black head coach, however, this go around the most qualified for the position happened to be white.

Our fanbase: "Why is it taking so long to hire someone?!?!"
Also our fanbase: "Why did they hire someone so quickly?!?!"

So Coach Jones was too incompetent and inept to be the head basketball coach at LSU, but the coach who coach who couldn't carry on Coach Jones' legacy at UNT is competent enough to be an assistant?
boy your logic here is flawless and not retarded at all

Why? Wade was mentored by Oliver Purnell and was the first hire on Tommy Amaker's staff at Harvard and Shaka's at VCU.
Crazy thought, but maybe those guys actually thought he was a promising head coach in the making.

Success driven? What I am referring about is opportunity. The scale is unbalanced in the favor of white men while the labor force (players) are nearly 70% African American. For Pete's sake, Will Wade was a ball boy yet afforded to learn the game from the exclusive from powerful men in charge. African Americans seldom get this sort of opportunity.
LSU has made advances in their hiring practices however, to name a hand full of coaches in a sport dominated by African Americans is the South Africa of sports. It is alarming behind words. The coaches are white. The AD's are white and so are most the mascots. What kind of world is it when you are people of color?

Get that BS out of here. There's plenty of underprivileged black kids that get free college degrees and become millionaires because of sports. Quit acting like someone is a victim here.

when people call for more diversity in Division 1 head coaching.
I mostly hear calls for wins, titles and NCAAT success, not an affirmative action trophy.
LSU has done it's part with the last 2 hires and no reason to bitch.

you dont have to play college basketball to be a basketball coach. Logic = flawed.

Being a Manager is waaayyy more important than you are giving it credit. Ask any college basketball player about the managers when they played. They are at practice, games, shootarounds, and meetings. They are basically coaches in training.

Please name me 5 coaches in college basketball that never played the game? I figured that you couldn't. Check mate!

I just addressed that Wade's first opportunities in coaching were given to him by black coaches. Are you going to blame them now?
