Traditional College Football was so much more meaningful than “muh free market”

UFL would need to offer more money than the colleges to attract some college talent and convince people outside of St Louis to go to games.

Guys like DeVito, Rattler and other back ups who have been part time starters could go there and learn how to be decent NFL QB's if the money was better for instance

dont be so sure. When revenue sharing comes in (aka pay the players) it has been said that NIL will diminish tremendously. Also I expect that when it does there will be contracts and roster controls.

XFL / USFL has failed each time they’ve tried it and the current UFL is losing money. The NFL has no interest in putting up the money to subsidize a minor league farm system when they already get that for free from the NCAA.

The OP will just force a high school kid to go get crippled going directly to the NFL. That’s rich.

It’s not foreign. We’re all well acquainted with professional football. It’s just not why most of us because fans of the college game. It’s not what amateur athletics was designed to be, and it certainly isn’t amateur athletics anymore.

Thus the title of this post.

Let the most talented players go pro out of high school. If they need to be developed they can be put on practice squads or some type of G-League.
who's going to let them go pro?

You do understand that the current 3-year rule is the NFL's rule, not the NCAA's.

Why would the NFL do this?

Finance companies don't hire promising math students right out of HS, then spend their own capital training them for 3-5 years. They make them earn a college degree and let the colleges pay to develop them.

One reason is having guys learn their system earlier, and before they develop the litany of injuries they leave college with.

Never going to happen. Nfl owners will never agree to pay salaries/training for farm league players.

Never say never.

The NFL already has the best farm, and culling, system for the pro league. It IS college football

Which I'm cool with, if guys can also get paid (ie NIL).

Conferences and the NCAA could likely initiate a rule that limits the annual jump to the transfer portal by players. I’m speaking of those players entering the transfer portal MULTIPLE times. And these athletes, and the universities could pretend to prioritize graduation, degrees and education for all players.

Cant really argue with much of this. I would still like see something in place that looks like the minor leagues which kids could go to for the 3 yr wait.

Nooooo.... I'm a proponent for the HS kid having the option of at least a "farm system" outside (outside of college), for the 3 yr NFL waiting period.

That same athlete, at 17 yrs of age can join the army, but can't play prof football. Sometimes we justify the status quo, with the status quo.

Agree. However the current state of CFB with NIL and the TP is unsustainable which is a revenue killer in the long run. Something has got to come out that will stabilize the rosters

But over half those guys will be busts before they can ever contribute, based on college hit rates. And based on MLB, most would get traded to a different system before they made the NFL team. Based on NFL HC and coordinator tenures, the team's system will change before that, too. Guys are also just as likely to develop those same injuries in a pro developmental league and again never contribute to the big boy team. Simply not worth the hundreds of millions it would cost them.

It’s bizarre that you care so much about them getting paid. It shouldn’t bother a logical fan one bit. What it does do is take away the passion, competitiveness, discipline, camaraderie etc from the game. As does the portal. frick them both

Shooting a gun vs ramming into grown men 10+ yrs your age day in and day out. Yea those are comparable. There’s a reason football players wear way more protective equipment than the Military

I agree.

So make them sign a contract.

Otherwise it’s just a fancy word for a bribe.
