Only Game Manager QB in this decade was Krenzel. Mauck and Flynn are the next closest ones, but they are not that close. Krenzel is the only one that fits the "standard" definition, i.e., limit turnovers and hand the ball off.

don't be stupid rant

a "game manager" is perfectedly capable of throwing a football downfield, otherwise he probably wouldn't be a qb

mauck and flynn were "managers" because they weren't the focal point of the offense, their main job was to get the ball to the "playmakers", not frick up, and occasionally make a play

therefore Game managers absolutely DO win championships

Calling him, Flynn, and Jefferson mere game managers is insulting to all three of them
Only if you assume "game manager" is an insult.

Who, in your opinion, is an example of a "game manager" in today's game (not talking championship QBs, just QBs in general)? It might make the conversation more interesting if you gave a vague notion of what the terms you are using actually mean when you use them.

Haven't been too many SEC champs with just a "game manager" at QB the last 20 years either. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any.

If you define "Game Manager" as a QB who is not the focal point of an offense, then of course there are and will continue to be many game managers who win championships.

On the other hand, a "Game Manager" as others have defined it is a QB who never takes control of a game. He minimizes turnovers and hands the ball off, alot. Under that definition, Krenzel is the only QB in this decade that has won a NC with that title.

Right now, what do you see JJ as?

I don't care about potential or JLs picks, dumbasses, I am asking what is JJ at this current date?

I agree! Why do people act like calling someone a "Game Manager" means they aren't a great QB. Fine, Lienart and Heupel (sp?) were great QBs and won the Heisman or was a runner up. Why does that also mean they couldn't be great "Game Managers". People on here act like being a game manager means that you actually suck, but just not as bad as the other QBs on your team.

Great game manager = great QB always!!

Jamarcus in 2006....great playmaker..but couldn't manage a game to save his arse. Speaking of saving, you guys can save it on posting his stats. His stats were the problem. The problem was that his mistakes always seemed to come at the worst possible time.

Great playmaker = great QB sometimes!!

Agree. By definition, a QB "manages the game." Makes the right reads. Checks off plays to better ones. Throws the ball away instead of taking a sack. Mauck managed the game and handed off to Vincent and got the ball to Skyler Green and Michael Clayton (playmakers). Flynn got the ball to Hester and Bowe (playmakers). Would not consider Leak to be a playmaker at all. Vince Young was the Playmaker of the NC group, but he still did a good job of recognizing the USC D and making good decisions.

Well if it's going to be that picky, then Krenzel doesn't fit the definition, either. Remember 4th and the season, "HOLY BUCKEYE!"?

Well said

being a game manager is more of a compliment than anything else

I think JJ has the talent, tools and potential to be a big time playmaker, but i'd be perfectly happy if he develops into a consistent manager

Yeah because Trent Dilfer was not a game manager for the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl.

Was it against the exact same competition, same players, same environment, with the same comradory, etc? NO!

Then what's your fricking point. He had more talent around him, should have done better than Mauck did the year before with less talent.

So yeah, he couldn't manage a game. Notice I didn't say he couldn't win a game!

You're right--Jamarcus played against a much tougher schedule in '06 than Flynn did in '07.
