for that reason i hope sean kelley doesn't get it... keep him with the Pels. he sounds too Irish and too Uptown-ish to be an LSU announcer

That's an odd mix. I don't hear either, especially Irish. He's from St. Louis, FWIW. He's been down here for around 15 years, though.

You and I not only seem to be on the same page, but the same sentence on said page, Lester.
Maybe it's a Fantasy Board Regulars thing.

when i think of Sean Kelley, i don't think "Louisiana, LSU." Let's be clear, Sean Kelley is not leaving calling Anthony Davis's prime to be Voice of the Tigers
and I saw a post earlier in this thread saying Jim Henderson. lol nope.
the LSU announcer needs to have a bit of Huey Long showmanship in his voice. Hawthorne had that, Rollins does on a TV level, and Wright has it
someone not mentioned in this thread, and may be a bit too New Orleans-y, Ken Trahan. he has tons of experience in every sport, and calls for local high schools and the VooDoo. i'm pretty sure he used to call for the Zephyrs and UNO

If Kelley gets offered the job, he takes it. I'd bet money on that. It may seem like a downgrade, but being the voice of an NCAA program as big as LSU, it would absolutely be promotion. More people listen to LSU sports on the radio than the Pelicans.
I see what you're saying and that was my first instinct, too, but it would be a well deserved promotion when you think about the market he'd be speaking for.

i saw this earlier in the thread... the Pels with AD are about to blow up and are looking at playoffs for a few years, with maybe a Finals run thrown in there somewhere. While the Saints are on a downswing, the Pels will be the hottest ticket in NOLA for the forseeable future. i don't think LSU fans outside NOLA fully understand.
Does Sean Kelley leave that and getting his clips replayed on Sportscenter, NBA fans globally, etc. to sit in a tiny press box at a midweek road baseball game? if we go to a road regional, he might have to sit in a tent a la UCLA

I almost positive he does. Like I said, I completely understand your reasoning and you may end up being right, but one factor you haven't mentioned...money. If it's a significant pay raise, which I'd imagine it is, that's the biggest factor for his family.

kind of a stupid way to pick a candidate

What will the board do when it finds out that 2 of the unnamed national guys are broadcasters at FCS schools and nobody has ever heard of them?
Not saying it's true...just throwing it out there. Everyone seems hell bent on this being an ESPN guy or something

sorry but Mr. B is on a completely different financial playing field than LSU is capable of
If you compare one sport, yes. But with this job being year round with all three major sports, I'd lean to think that the compensation would be higher. We may never know, though.
I'd still bet the house that Kelley takes it if it's offered to him. We shall see.

Pass on Hanagriff. No thanks. I don't really want someone who already has a personality they can't turn off to call the game. I know they already do in a smaller way but can't put my finger on it but NO.
I discount Rollins right off because surely he was thrown in to appease someone or play the politically correct card so that everyone thinks they have a chance.
Personally I think Patrick would be the best choice long term.

If someone forced me to choose among : Hannagrif , Wright , Rollins, Ford , mascona ; I would select Patrick Wright.
But if Hanagrif is chosen , some doctor better write him a prescription for some happy pills. Provigil might work for him.

Charlie H is by far my favorite local TV/radio person/commentator. And I like him on baseball with Jim H. But, I am hoping that LSU will hire someone with a better tone to his voice than Charlie or Patrick or Rollins.

There is nothing about Kelley's voice that stands out other than the fact that he is a northerner, which fits in NOLA. He does not have that IT factor that a SEC play by play announcer has.He sounds like a TV sports anchor. LINK

Don't fool yourself, he will absolutely be the voice of the Tigers if he is picked.
