Poche and Lange have probably hit their college ceiling. Dunn has helped turn them both into really good pitchers. However, there is only so much more Dunn can get out of them at this point in their career. (Thats not a knock on Dunn or either pitcher. We wouldn't be close to here without them).
Dunn's amazing work has shown in Walker and Hess. Two freshman that came in early and had some rough outings as they learned the ropes. Dunn had much more to improve upon with them, and he has. Nobody should question his ability as a pitching coach.

Didn't work with Smoke
smoke was a head coach for 7 years in between being an assistant at LSU and becoming HC after Skip retired. he actually had a good resume at Northeastern. Sure he didn't work out, but it's not the same as what Tanner did hiring Holbrook

I may agree with you on Poche, but not with Lange. The sky is the limit for Lange the more consistent he is with getting ahead in counts. His conditioning and going deep into games have improved tremendously over the last 3 years. That's coaching as well as dedication by Lange to improve.

Smoke was promised the keys to the kingdom, just like Holbrook. He went to get experience, it wasn't that his experience got him the job. The situations are pretty analogous.

so you don't think Lange could improve were he to return for his Senior season?

Smoke was not promised the keys to the program when he left in 1994. he was promised that when he returned in 2001 to take an administrative role prior to Skip retiring

I didnt say they looked like dog shite. They looked good but not enough for me to "tip my hat to Dunn". Tipping my hat would mean that the pitching staff was lights out. Half this board was melting down after the first few innings of BOTH Fridays game and Saturdays game. Hell they were screaming for Maneiri to take Lange out in the 2nd inning. The 2nd fricking inning. Credit to Maneiri for leaving Lange in. He fought through the rough innings and finally got in a groove. Does this look like a typical Alex Lange stat line?
IP 6.0
H 8
R 5
ER 5
BB 1
K 6
HR 1
BF 28
ERA 2.87
Do you think this stat line will win us games in the Supers and on? USM is an excellent hitting baseball team.
Poche was ok like I said. He had bases loaded in the first inning with 0 outs before any errors happened though. I do think the errors later did a number on him mentally. I dunno. Glad he fought through it though.
I was on board with the rotation. Poche first, Lange and then Walker. We are lucky to have 3 good quality pitchers this year. Its the very thing everyone bitched about last year.
I was just commenting that Poche and Lange could have looked better, because they have the talent and they have definitely shown it. That is all.
The last 20 or so games have been fun to watch though regardless.

Let the rant downers say whatever they want. Thank god CPM didn't listen to a single one of them this weekend.
Idiots wanting not to start Poche game 1 and the same ones not wanting to start Walker game 3 due to rain chances.
Our staff did a great job. And all of the want to be coaches had no clue. Even after winning all three games, they are still here complaining that it wasn't quite good enough for them.

I am giving Lange a pass on Saturday night. It was so humid and the SLU pitcher has having worse problem than Lange did. Neither appeared to be able to really get a good grip on the ball till it cooled down a little, then Lange looked like Lange and pitched great his last 4 innings.
As mentioned with Poche, the defense let him down, but TSU was getting good swings on him early and they did the same against Rice on Saturday.

he actually had a good pitcher (Ben Sheets) at Northeastern.

Dude my point was that Dunn did amazing work to improve Walker and Hess as the season went on. Lange and Poche have been Lange and Poche. There was a limit to how much he could do with them.
That was a response to the person saying Dunn only gets half credit BC Lange and Poche haven't been much better.

Not so fast. Two best pitchers have regressed this yr

Lange has not regressed. Not sure what games you have been watching. Poche had nowhere to go but down after starting the season the way he did. But his season numbers are better this year than they were last: better ERA, more wins, lower opp BA, walk rate is about the same. Only thing down is his K rate, but he's never been a strikeout pitcher so it's pretty irrelevant for him.

I'll say I half way agree. Niether poche nor Lange were sharp by any means
All pitchers have bad outings or a bad series.

Always?
Every game?
Every inning?
Every batter?
I get it. Robo-pitchers

This is the typical ranter line of thinking. If every player doesn't perform at the absolute highest level every single pitch then they suck, and coaches are to blame.
