But no one except some Notre Dame people were saying he’d mailed it in

Even after the fact I think they were just coping about losing their coach rather than having some unique insight into how he'd do at LSU

Kelly didn't have the gravitas that he appeared to have with the Notre Dame PR machine behind him.

When can LSU get that type of PR machine?

Kelly checked out.

I actually think that's what happened. He was never fully invested into the job. He thought it would be easier than it was and at some point, he jist decided to coast instead of locking in and win a title.

Knock off all this dumb shite.

It was a home run hire at the time for all the right reasons. No one could foresee how BK would check out and draw his millions.

And if you claim you knew it from the start, you’re full of shite.

I’ll admit, I thought it was a great hire at the time and still believed it two years into his tenure.

You and almost everyone else. There are some who hated the contract terms. There are some who thought BK was an a-hole as a person. But very few thought he was a bad coach. Most of this is just hindsight masquerading as being the smartest guy in the room.

Well and there are also the fans who hate every LSU coach simply for not being Saban. Of course they’ll claim to have known what nobody else knew at the time.

There may be other reasons that his face was red.

He was a carpetbagger hired by carpetbaggers all who thought they were better than us. They were all here to save us poor, undereducated LA folks from our wretched lives. frick em all. JBE, Tate, Colon Temple, the majority of the BOS’s and Woodward. We could have had Kiffen but since O recommended him that would have been racist.

Had LSU gotten anyone else other than Kelly, let’s say Lincoln Riley. Riley gets us to 10 win seasons and CFP appearances. We don’t have Lane today.
Why BK got lazy and lost the fire is beyond me, but I am glad we dropped him to get Lane.

Ironically, without Nuss he would still have a job!

When Nuss got the yips, that's when CBK decided to mail it in. The aggy beatdown and Van Buren option were game over and he knew it.

This topic is very obvious--all LSU did was pay for his retirement. Brilliant move on his part.

His resume was outstanding! Second most wins among active coaches and he left Notre Dame to come here. He just quit and no one could see that coming.

This is getting less impressive by the day when you look at ND’s schedule every year. If the rest of college football has any nuts, they’d refuse to schedule them until they join a conference and actually play more than 3 decent teams.

I gotta give Brian Kelly props for that Bama win in Tiger Stadium. One of the most exciting & satisfying upsets in Tiger history.

Also, Kelly delivered arguably the 2nd most exciting offense in LSU history during JD's Heisman season (while simultaneously sabotaging that product with arguably LSU's worst ever defense.)

Woody kept throwing money at kelly until it was just too good to pass up . Kelly told several people he wanted to coach maybe 3 more years . LSU would have been better off with a younger guy on a limited contract . Woody and whoever else makes these decisions did not thoroughly and impartially investigate Kelly .
