I have been going to the games since 1966.
I was at Mac’s Tangerine Bowl as well as the 79 USC game.
Back then we used to listen to the away games on WWL because only a handful of games were on television.

60s,70s and 80s KWKH radio

John Ferguson and Walter Hill on WWL radio. My daddy would pour a glass of Ancient Age whiskey and we’d listen to every play. John used to start every broadcast with “ the tigers are wearing gold headgear, white jerseys and gold pants then describe the opponents colors.

I remember sitting on the back porch with my Papa listening to games. The only light was from the embers of his cigarette. It seems only 3-4 were televised, so we listened a lot. Same with baseball regionals in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I often sit and listen to the broadcast out of nostalgia and sometimes superstition if things are going well.

WJBO except for whichever games were on ABC back in the day. Then when ESPN came along, they’d get a few games on there. If I was lucky, I’d get invited to someone’s house to watch a TigerVision game. When I got to LSU, we’d find go to the Daiquiri Shoppe to catch a TigerVison game.

quote:34-10 victory against Wake Forest. (See all the great memories that you can recall when your brain is not damaged from Alcohol) I was a GBFTL drummer at that game. It was a great Tiger Band road trip. We got almost an entire week in Orlando and got to march through Disney World!
In honor of Cholly Mac’s Tangerine Bowl victory…

Man, it was sometimes a challenge. I actually invested in a shortwave system. I lived multiple places in and out of the country, so even 870am only worked well at night. Most memorable to my kids was playing late night basketball in the driveway in Michigan because only the car stereo would reliably pick it up without static.

My dad worked for Mobile Oil they had a few seats a round 20-25 yd line about 15 rows up most of the big wigs thought we were going to get blown out. So my dad got an extra ticket and took me. I couldn’t talk or hear anything for about 3 days. We were right next to each other and literally had to scream to understand what we were saying.

Don't forget that around 82-83 WTBS started the SEC game of the week until JP Sports picked it up. WTBS was a big deal for the SEC because the game was broadcast nationally.

We went to games. Purple shirts and good helmets and pants. Every once in a while it was in CBS or ABC. Sometimes it would be on ESPN. Without cable you couldn’t get Tigervison. We couldn’t get cable so we went to my grandparents home because they had cable. There was always the radio and we listened intently in the radio.
