They only have 34 homers this season
see how people easily overhype a team

Kentucky - uhhh maybe and thats a stretch IMO, UK played a wayyy tougher schedule Florida - no they are not in UF's league

They remind me of that UNO team that had a bunch of great hitters with beefed up averages. Not saying those guys weren't good and these guys aren't.
However, I tend to believe there is less talented hitters on there than the stats lead you to believe. A .320 hitter in their conf, is likely a .260 hitter in the SEC

I think a lot of people around here are starting to overhype Stoney Brook. I don't think they are a bad team, but this team would finish in the bottom 4 of the SEC. That doesn't mean that they can't win, after all LSU lost a series to Auburn. But let's not forget that Stoney Brook lost game 2 last weekend to Central Florida. Stoney Brook has a couple of good arms, but they had to abuse their ace just to get out of last weekend. He will not be at full strength this weekend.

7 players drafted
high team batting average - two over .400
decent ERA
good fielding club - as of last week second nationally and we are third
they are hot and confident - and yankee cocky
but good pitching could beat them and playing before alarge Tiger crowd could help shake them up
They will see a crowd bigger then the total number of people who saw them play at home the entire year!

A friend talked to Skip at the LPB special on Omaha & the CWS the other nite. Re Stony Brook's ace pitcher, Skip commented his legs would give out on him at some point, sooner rather than later. Skip also commented that with the combo of the heat/humidity/game crowds, LSU does have a significant home field advantage. And he finished with the old proviso: good pitching always beats good hitting. FWIW.

100% agree...see my UNO comparison

you have to take this with a grain of salt. The competition they play against is a joke. LSU would have 6 guys over .300, 2 over .400, and maybe Rhymes over .600 in that league.
If you want those guys real averages, you have to handicap it. Knock say 30 to 40 points off each guy. that's probably along the lines of the what they hit in the SEC.

No question if they play their best and LSU doesn't, SB could win the series. They had more players drafted in the MLBAD than most of the teams in the SEC. That being said, LSU should be favored to win; probably 2-0.

I'd say Kentucky and Florida are good comparisons, obviously a bit less proven because they haven't played anyone outside of last weekend.
Comparing them to the overall #1 Seed?
Their quality win was Miami. Miami's quality win was North Carolina. Not only did Miami go home in their own Regional, so did North Carolina. The ACC was very much overrated.
LSU has quality series wins at Florida and at South Carolina. As well as sweeping Arkansas at home.
Is Stony Brook a good team? Yes, yes they are. But comparing them to Florida? Wow.. Some people on this board are making Stony Brook out to be this juggernaut force.
Getting 50 wins on the year is quite a feat I give them that.. Put them in the SEC and I put money down that they don't see anything close to 50.

SB team batting average 337 team era 2.86.........not bad plus they had 6-7 players drafted.
Posted on 6/7/12 at 3:41 pm to jpsig64g
Competition aside they have 3 players in thr top 22 in the nation in batting average.
Posted on 6/7/12 at 3:42 pm to GA Tiger
Well, they're Are in the supers...

I was told and have not verified this but they had more MLB draft picks than LSU. Also, they beat Miami.

I disagree about their pitching being legit, you can't even compare them to Florida in that sense. They don't miss a lot of bats, especially their top two guys. Lineup is deep and scary though, no doubts about that.

I don't think Paul will let the team overlook them. The 11AM start time will hurt us due to crowd noise, but hopefully these NY kids melt in the heat.
