id rather go for the win today though.

And i like Ross, i just think a layoff may hurt him. And i think he would be best served as a last resort(aka tomorrows starter).

Yes we all would like to see the win today but your philosophy is that of the chinaman who ate all his rice in a season and didn't save any to plant for the next season. You have to see the whole picture. AR puts us in better position to win the whole thing tomorrow if we lose tonight.
By the way thank God we left Rice in Baton Rouge

A 20 year old kid in good shape would have no problems pitching on just 3 days rest. It wouldn't even really be a factor unless he did it on a regular basis.

Joxy-should have logged onto The Rant this morning-you would have been more timely. We broke this hours ago.

you dont know what you are talking about. Texas' staff is DEEP. A lot deeper than ours.

they still have another good starter left. if they get a good start tonight, they will be fine tomorrow and will match up great with us.

same way you stand to lose something today if you throw him tomorrow.

No, it's different because you would expect to get a significantly better/stronger Ranaudo tomorrow than you would on short rest today.

I think it boils down to you thinking going on short rest is not a big deal. Personally, I think it is a huge deal. 3 days rest is 2 days less rest than he's pitched all year.

Exactly! This is why you don't want to lose tonight with a semi-tired AR! If we lose and don't at least have him tomorrow...Advantage Texas.

but they limited him in the last game for what it seemed like this exact reason.

i dont think its that big of a deal.

The texas fans don't think so either which is why they are backing you up on this.

Perhaps you baseball fanatics can enlighten me. Apparently Ranuado would be starting on only 3 days rest if he were to play tonight, which he isn't. It is my understanding that this is 3 days baseball rest (unclear). By my calculation I estimate 4 days rest: We played last Friday against the Razorphags and Ranuado left the game @ around 5:30pm. Seeing that Game 2 of this college championship series won't start until 6:00pm the following tuesday that would be four (4) twenty-four (24) hour periods from Friday's game. Why is this not 4 days rest? I plead ignorant...please clarify.

Ask yourself this question....how many calendar days will he have gone without pitching? He pitched Friday. He was off Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. If he pitches Tuesday, that is 3 days rest, those 3 days being Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Hope I'm wrong, but I think Texas will hit Ross pretty easily. He is more of a fastball pitcher and that was what they were hitting over the fence last night.

That was because Coleman lost all movement on his fastball. Its east for them to hit a flat fastball out of the park that has little to no movement on it. If Coleman throws those fastballs like he usually does maybe one goes out, if that.

Thanks.

It would be interesting to see the shortest period of time he has gone without pitching during the season and how well he did in that particular scenario. Then this period of time can be compared to the 96 hours he would have gone without pitching if he were play game two of this college championship series and that would give us a more accurate idea of whether he was ready or not.

It is not necessarily the rest. It is also having someone that you have confidence in to win that pressure game. As the Friday starter, he has had to set the tone all season long. You don't want to waste that attribute in a game 2 where it is not a must win. If we win tonight, then that is gravy. If we lose, then we'll have a true competitor that gives us a good chance to win on the mound, and UT will be scrambling to put a staff together a la Arkansas on Friday.

Ask yourself this question...He slept on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night.
Friday+Saturday+Sunday+Monday=4 days of rest

PM must have respect for UT's bullpen, to not risk going bullpen vs. bullpen in game 3.

Where the frick are you people getting this from? Cole Green is ready to go tomorrow and is very capable. And TX has a DEEP bullpen. By no stretch of the imagination will TX be thin on pitching tomorrow.
