Things I miss from Les Miles’ tenure:
1. The Big Cat drill. Every LSU team he coached was physical and tough.
2. His press conferences where he never really gave a straight answer and the media was constantly bewildered.
3. His one liners like, “He didn’t have the chest” or my favorite, “ That’s Death Valley - where opponents dreams come to die”.

quote:that was the thing about Les - he GOT LSU. He really embraced all things purple and gold. Like that post game interview when he said there was a “stiff dew”. I mean on the fly refusing to say it ever rains in tiger stadium and coming up with the phrase “stiff dew”? That’s just and all timer. No one else could do that.

All kinds of Les-isms have staying power on this board to this day. Nicked, chest, soft tissue, R-Kansas, kiss them on the mouth- if you’re a girl, etc. No other coach comes close.
I always had Les’ back and got in multiple arguments on this board with some people in this thread who wanted him fired after game 1 and never let up. His wins need to be restored and he needs to be in the HOF.
Without those stupid vacated wins he’s the winningest coach in LSU history and we’ve been playing football for over 100 years.

Yeah, I think that was kind of a defense mechanism for Les, I think at some point he became aware he was ridiculed a bit for his odd manner and presentation, so I think he began to try to lean into it and give the impression he was calculating genius playing the bumbling Columbo role.
I never really bought that - I always thought what we saw was who we saw.
to your point I do think he would smirk after he spouted curious nothings. Like when they would ask him for scrimmage stats and he'd just make them up on the spot.
Not sure when the cognitive issues began as it was always difficult to tell because his peculiarities were so prevalent as well. I pray for the best for he and his family in dealing with whatever it is they are going through.

His last couple of years until he was fired were not great, but the overall track record stands up against any other LSU coach.
It really wasn't the full last two years, either. It was the end of 2015 and 4 games of 2016.
LSU entered the ninth game of 2015 against Alabama as the #2 team in the nation with the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman in Fournette. While Alabama did hold Fournette in check, LSU tied the game in the second quarter. Unfortunately, on the 40-yard TD pass to open the LSU scoring, it appears that Brandon Harris was injured. He continued to play, but his production tanked and the offense went into a 3 game shell. Fournette would not be invited to New York and everyone thought the season was a disaster.
We all know how 2016 started.
So, we're not talking about 2 full seasons, but about a 9-game stretch where LSU went 4-5, but also included a total evisceration of a Patrick Mahomes Texas Tech team.
Sometimes, it all goes wrong fast.
GEAUX TIGERS!

I didn’t think you could diagnose someone with CTE. Maybe they ruled out Dementia or Alzheimer’s?
Terrible news for coach. I was hoping they could honor him in 2027 for 20 year reunion for 2007

I believe he was referring to Tommy Casanova.

You hate to see that in anyone. It's a terrible thing. I have a friend whose wife has progressed from early stages to more severe, though still intermittent symptoms. Heartbreaking.
No. The 2014 8-5 record with a lopsided Auburn loss, the way Moo U and Dak, crushed the Tigers early (but Mullen's idiocy gave us a shot at the end) were the first signs that portended the decline. The three game losing streak in 2015 was brutal :
Bama 30-16 L
Arkansas 31-14 L
Ole Miss 38-17 L
Had divine intervention not occurred, Joe Alleva would have canned him then.

But without question that season opener loss (16-14) to Wisconsin in 2016 began the Les Miles decline.

I think you’re right.
Bumped a thread titled “Les Miles health” to give us an update on Tommy Casanova
