If (big if) Jayden can improve by around 30% (wishful thinking), we can have a very nice season. Jayden runs very well but looks skinny and you wonder if he'll be able to absorb all the hits he takes.

At this point, just catching the punt is a win for this team, and Clayton seems to do that well. Not sure if Greg Clayton can do anymore than that, but catching it at the 5 was a no no. Hopefully that'll be a teaching lesson for him.
well, he did go full retard trying to dive on that ball when he, the returner, should have been yelling at every white jersey to run away like some Monty Python skit.

Must've been 4 botched punt fields yesterday that cost teams their game, MSU to us included. He almost gave it back for no absolutely good reason.

Many of these are mental mistakes. Not keeping your lanes is mostly mental- cover guys want to be the hero and get eat up. They should not be happening with this alarming frequency.

Kelly made a mistake letting Max Johnson leave. More mobile than Brennan and much better arm than Danials.

Yeah, that was bad.

First 5 drives of the game

Punt
Punt
Punt
Fumble
Punt

Along with 4 false start penalties in the first quarter alone.

Denbrock has got to do a better job calling plays early on. There just isn't any rythmn with Daniels, Oline or receivers.

Roll out Daniels and throw short intermediate paint concepts. Get Boutte or Nabors on some sweeps running the ball - go sideline to sideline then pound up the middle.

If any of you go watch UGA for this season just their opening drives they run the same stuff the last 3 games in a row. Bring Bowers in motion and quick chest pass and let him make play, roll Stetson to both sides hitting bowers or mconkey in the flat.

Then they start pounding the ball taking the game over but by that point Stetson in a rhythm he's comfortable and so does the whole offense.

With Denbrock he's still trying to do these long developing passing plays or vanilla run attempts up the modded. Daniels at this point we can comfortably all say just doesn't have the vision for 3/4 reads.

I wonder if Max & family gave LSU an ultimatum, he starts, or else. Hopefully Jayden improves as I don't think Max is elite, just a decent serviceable QB.

I just wish people would be more patient with Daniels. It is his first time playing in the SEC. He is learning a new (to him) offense. He defaults to the way he has always played because that is what works for him. Now we want him to stand more still and scan the field (which is necessary), however, he can get first downs with his legs and keep drives alive. He is obviously somewhat uncomfortable with all of the new stuff and changes he is being asked to make.

He is positive. He doesn't panic. He takes a licking and gets back up. He is going to get better as the season goes on. Can't we just stop bashing on him so much?

The poor special teams play must be a symptom of a team that had very poor depth going into spring and still lacks numbers.

This. Lots of new faces and youth. Notice the comment made by the announcer during the game about putting more veterans in on left side of line for xp's and fg team.

Definitely...It'd be nice to start winning the 1st half's. I do like how we win the 2nd half's though.

Kelly doesn't seem like the type to respond well to that.

Special teams coordinator has to be fired. I don't care who his dad or grandpa is. Punt returned doesn't know when to leave the ball alone, several kicks almost blocked, kicking the ball out of bounds. Awful, awful coverage on kicks and punts.
He has to go.

He is also the guy who is reeling in the massive recruiting numbers... just saying. He cannot recruit if not a field coach.

Great analysis. Spot on for the most part but wanted to add a small detail I noticed last night. I loved seeing CBK go straight for Daniels every time the offense came to the sideline- score, punt, or timeout. Refreshing to seeing head coach active in the coaching / teaching process.

Special teams is really highlighting SPECIAL. As in the short bus. Polian should be reassigned to something that lets him remain an on the field coach in title only— I think he is an asset on portal transfers and HS player evaluation (at least according to the off season reports) but special teams is too important to ignore.

Next week gives us a good chance to get some reps in to the young uns before the schedule gets to the steak.

Or kick a field goal. Our protection is awful.

Last night after the few huge returns when he decided to squib kick and it went out of bounds- he should be relived of his duties right there.

There's clearly not a plan in place and none of the guys take special teams seriously.

McMahon was a monster special teams coach compared to this guy and we never had s return game under him.

At least the kicks always went out the end zone, field goal blocking was sound, punt returner knew what to do and our coverage was always disciplined

He's in his 4th year of college ball. He's a grown man and he's missing reads that you expect a junior high QB to make and I'm not lieing.

If I missed that post to Malik when he was alone in the end zone in the 8th grade my coach would have ripped my arse.

There is no excuse for some of the reads he's missing.

Now we want him to stand more still and scan the field
Literally when has anyone ever said he has to stand still? He's a starting SEC QB. We just want him to throw to the open guy and go through his reads. That's not asking him to be Peyton manning.

If he could be Nick Marshall we'd win 10 games.

So we're suppose to ignore facts for your feelings? You soft son.

Does internet stars mean more to you than actual games?

Make him assistant to the head coach, idgaf, but don't ignore special teams. It's literally already cost you a game this year

Completely agree.

Daniels is a playmaker with his feet, but his lack of vision and inconsistency hurt us. He’s playing hard, but he just misses open receivers even when he has time in the pocket. Normally you hope your OC can scheme to boost his strengths and hide his weaknesses, but I don’t know how much they can do to help him here.

Special Teams needs to go back to basics and just focus on the fundamentals at this point.
