More worried about the transfers, there always seems to be one or two guys who we need.
I wouldn't necessarily say we need. It seems like that in the beginning but guys step up. I thought it was crazy for Byrd to leave because I just knew he had a spot starting this year....but I guess he would have gotten a shot at 3rd. Would he have been an upgrade there? I guess we could have used Godfrey, but no telling which Godfrey would have shown up. A program like LSU handles transfers fine. I hate to see guys leave, but I don't think it impacts us much.

I'm just not sure why Deichmann doesn't come back, of any player drafted he has the best chance of improving his draft stock next year.
If Deichmann comes back he hits .320 with 15 homers next year.

Because I think he would go pro... He had a good season, how much does he improve his stock coming back for another season?

Between the draft signings and transfers we need to free up 13 spots before next spring. Realistically it's only about 9 more spots, but I'm not taking people off my eligibility tracker until I see an article that says they signed or are transferring.
Fraley, Pint, Williams, and Poche leave the number at 9. If Stallings and Smith both sign we're at 7. Weatherly is a risk to sign as a top 10 round guy, that's 6.
That's not an unreasonable amount of attrition, but it does mean that we're going to lose someone we may not be expecting to.

Deichmann's crazy if he comes back...not only the injury risk, but his development under this staff wont progress much farther...take the money and refine your craft under professional guidance.

saying he is as good as gone. The dude was picked in the 18th Rd. Its not exactly the danger zone for losing kids.

what are his goals? you seem to know. does he want to make chump change as an 18th Rd pick and start riding buses next year, or come back and play at LSU with his friends, graduate, and make a run at the CWS?

You know with PM there will be transfers.
It was a great season though for what we thought we had at the start. The issue is being in a position where at the start we said just make a regional. PM got an 08 hot streak but couldn't keep it going as long.

Deichamnn with a good JR season could see a 7 figure signing bonus. He has every reason to come back

This is the dumbest post I've read on the topic. Deichmann is a sophomore. This means he can come back for another year and still have leverage in the draft next year. He improved significantly over the course of the season. Andy is a quality hitting coach. Another year will do great things for him. Its not like he was drafted in the top 10 rounds. He can almost do nothing but improve his stock by coming back for another year.

Riding the bus making money is better than having it run you over.

Seems like the appropriate time to talk about next year is after the final game of the season....

Ok, thats funny
There is almost no chance he could actually lose money next year, he would maybe sign for 150k this year.

Deichmann was pretty mediocre to for 1/2 of the season and was drafted in the 26th round as a sophomore with only 1 year under his belt.
He has everything going for him to get another year of SEC pitching and show teams he can hit in the heart of the order and become a top 3 round pick. He has nothing to lose coming back next year as he will have even more leverage as a junior.

LSU had a great season and went further than A LOT of people predicted. This was a good season even though it ended it defeat. Seems people can't understand that unless it ends in a Championship.
because they are idiots with underdeveloped brains

he would maybe sign for 150k this year.

I`m not that familiar with what the pay scales are in the MLB draft. I believe the 14th round was Poche and that was our earliest selection.
How much money is he looking at, in that draft position?

quote:There are no slot values for draft picks after the 10th round. For rounds 11 through 40 the max signing amount is $100K unless the team is willing to pay a "luxury tax" (which I think is 75%) on any amount over $100K.

I'm guessing (and it is strictly a guess) Poche is looking at a signing amount between $50K and $90K.
