re: LSU should go all in on Baseball

Exactly. If men's basketball didn't suck it would have private donor funds like all the other sports programs. McMahon is a doorknob with no results so he's not bringing donor money in. Men's basketball being bad is bad for all the other programs.

I also believe we should go all in on baseball.
When you say “we” do you mean you are writing a large check or you just want others to write large checks?
No school can fund them all in today’s NIL world.

Outside of say Miss State, no university is so heavily invested in baseball like LSU is.

To think of it another way, if every SEC team except Florida and Kentucky gutted their funding for MBB, the product on the court would be horrible, which affects NCAA tourney money and long term TV contracts with ESPN. Thus, the SEC guidelines on rev share.
I have not seen anywhere that the SEC’s guidelines are a mandate, but I agree with you that it is in the conference’s best interest to make sure their teams are putting the best product forward in the highest revenue generating sports, so it would make sense if there were requirements in place. It works the other direction as well. They don’t want one or two schools overspending in particular sports at the expense of other sports because it will upset the league’s competitive balance. My only point was that in the absence of a mandate, it’s not necessarily in LSU’s best interest to spend more on MBB if the high cost of competitiveness in the sport doesn’t carry with it the same return on investment.

Seems like I’m posting this 3-4x a week. Hopefully people will start to understand how much potential profit LSU is currently leaving on the table in MBB…
Sure, there is potential there, but there are also more teams spending big chasing after that same pot of gold. Even if the net profit were better, would it be worth the tradeoff? Would you rather make $4.5M combined with Alabama’s basketball and baseball results or make $1.5M combined with LSU’s MBB and baseball results? Is 2 NCs in 3 years worth $3M a year in lost profits? I would say yes. Tennessee did better both from a profit perspective and a competitive standpoint, but Auburn was worse for combined profit. There’s just no guarantee that MBB would have the return on investment you are projecting and it’s especially questionable if it would come at the expense of baseball.

Baseball has zero expected potential for profit growth.
I’ve literally given a blueprint/case point for how much profit LSU MBB is potentially leaving waste.
You’re welcome to research all the financials. They’re public record.

I didn’t say they did, but they could also lose $4-$5M a year like Auburn and Alabama do if they chose to emphasize MBB instead.

Have Bama and AU lost $4-$5 million a year on baseball? Can I see those financial statements?

Auburn’s is behind a paywall at the Montgomery Statesman, but Google AI says they lost $4.1M on baseball. The link below shows Alabama lost $4.5M.

I looked up as well. Bama lost $4.5 million on baseball. Good on them.

Can you imagine profiting $9+ million a season MBB?

I think LSU has a great HC in JJ... but if he thinks LSU is going to go all in on baseball over say, football... well that's just crazy talk.

I don’t understand how so many LSU fans cannot comprehend how much more earning potential MBB has over baseball
Jay can win the next 5 NCs and one or two successful basketball seasons would still out profit it by a wide margin. Many of you may prefer baseball and that’s fine but a decent to good MBB is worth way more to the school than being elite in baseball
We don’t have to pick one or the other but if we did MBB should get priority
